College football was better before NIL and the transfer portal. It seems like some TN fans just hate anything that Saban ever says. I hate him but I agree with him. Commitment means nothing anymore and neither does loyalty to a team. Having to constantly recruit committed players because of a paycheck is ridiculous.

Would Saban coach Alabama for free? Doubt it.

It’s just very hypocritical for Nick and his wife to bitch and moan about kids wanting their fair share as they sit in their $20m beach house. Saban would be selling cars if it wasn’t for the cash cow that college football has become.

Bama’s been paying kids for decades. Suddenly the playing field is evened and now it’s an issue?

Yeah, the current landscape does suck, but it’s better than the alternative of which we had absolutely 0 parity at the top of the game. UT would NOT be where they are right now without NIL/ portal - it would take half a decade to replicate the 2022 season with the mess Heupel took over.

How is it any less ridiculous that he makes over 10 million a year but the kids who are actually doing the playing got nothing, or next to nothing? For that matter, why is it fine when coaches had no loyalty to the kids they recruited and had a mercenary atmosphere?

I'm not saying you are wrong, overall I actually agree with you that I think the sport was a better product before NIL...but those words could have been coming out of any coaches mouth and they would have been hypocritical bull****. It being Saban is irrelevant, at least for me.
