Little known fact. In the case that gave us the NFA the United States government argued in front of SCOTUS that the NFA did not violate the 2A because the 2A only applies to military weapons and SBRs are not used by the military.

This will be and has been a major hurdle going forward to any gun control law that goes before SCOTUS. The 2A protects the citizens rights to own military equipment and weapons as defined by SCOTUS and has been established law for 80+years.

Heavy machine guns were used to support infantry assaults. Granted, no one is going to carry it like a football, but once on the field, ole Ma-Deuce may be the meanest lady in the fight.
