Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

OMG, not again. Were the injuries because of contact with another player or a non-contact injury. If it was non-contact then I would worry. Usually contact may result in bruised muscles or banging knees which is usually painful but not serious. Hoping for the best because so many players and teams are having their dreams shattered because of all these injuries. Womens basketball is becoming dangerous.
Kitley was technically fouled, but the contact was so light. She knew while on the ground what happened. Sadly, I don't expect to see her back this year, but hopefully that's not the case.

I’m surprised (or perhaps just unaware) that there isn’t more research being done to understand why we are seeing such a rash of injuries, particularly ACL tears. We’re seeing it in soccer too, sometimes seeing a second tear shortly after the first. Idk if it is because players are stronger and faster now, they’re less likely to play a second sport so they aren’t as balanced, or if the year round schedules some keep up is too much, or yes to all of the above. It’s very concerning!
There have been studies over the years, this has been a problem for a long time. For a while it was thought something about the pelvic or hip to knee ratio in women was different and causing the problem, but not sure it was ever proven. IMO, a big part of the current uptick is just gross overuse, with kids now training, practicing and playing nonstop year round.

They have Vandy and MsST in the last 4 in. I think they should both be out of the field. SEC did not play well to close the conference season.
I agree. They always say it's how you finish, and MSST went off the tracks and crashed into the abyss. They couldn't even beat the SEC cellar dwellars. Vandy has a nice record on paper, but beat no one of significance. I think TAMU is better than both, but Endyia Rogers late season injury probably cost them a tournament berth unless she returns for the SECT and they show out.

My guess is the winner of the Miss. St. and TAMU 8/9 game will be in the NCAA tournament and the loser will not.

Starting to look like a very strong possibility that Brink will stay at Stanford for a fifth season. That leaves Clark as number one and Jackson and Cardoso for the next two spots.

I would think Jackson would go before Cardoso. Cardoso is a nice player but I’m actually curious to see how her game translates in the W. She won’t have a size advantage any more and won’t be able to rely on 2’ hook shots alone for production.

She has a nice looking shot but have never really seen her make many mid-range shots.

That looks to be number two if Brink is not moving on. Said she was looking into a fifth year at Stanford and LA has been watching Rickea everytime she plays.

LA also has the fourth pick and may have been thinking about Rickea there, esp when Paige was in play. LA could be planning to take Kamilla at #2 if Brink is not available. In no way do I think Kamilla will have a better pro career than Rickea, but LA could use her size. They would be gambling in that scenario that the Chicago Sky, who's also scouted her, doesn't take Rickea at #3. Hard to tell whether LA is thinking 2 or gambling on 4, but they've sure been a presence around here lately.

If it's Chicago, what an interesting bunch of personalities TSpoon would have to start her coaching career w the Sky - Chennedy Carter, Diamond D, Dana Evans, and RIckea as the newby. Izzy Harrison is also on that team so they'd have a strong LVFL presence. Big pluses for RJ at Chicago in that she'd be close to home and have a built in mentor in her friend Diamond.

Looks like whatever happens RJ will be a lottery pick and that's a great way to cap off KJH run of 4 straight first round draft picks. That's probably her best accomplishment as HC and please save the posts saying she inheirted, didn't recruit those 4. She didn't eff them up, OK? In fact, I'd go to the mat with anyone who says KJH was not completely responsible for Jordy being drafted. Save your fun for next spring when that streak will most likely go kaput.

Looking at some LV draft history, Chamique is the one and only #1 pick. Both Catchings and Diamond went 3rd overall, and unless I'm missing someone, no other LV has ever gone that high.

edit to correct: thks to amb for pointing out I completely forgot CP3 as obviously a #1. Also Sh. Stricklin went #2.

As much as I can't stand any LA-based team in any sport, I really don't want Rickea to walk into the potential drama and uncertainties of this new Chicago squad. LA's coach tends to favor veterans historically but they are totally depleted season, so that might end up being the best option for her, whether at the #2 or #4 pick.

I was all for Chicago, just bc of proximity to home and family, until I saw that roster. Uncertainities is putting it mildly.

Both the Sky and Sparks are likely to be pretty awful this year so both should provide RJ good playing time.

How quickly you forget Candace Parker! Catch would have gone #1 if not for her injury IMO. I think she would have gone ahead of Lauren Jackson. Shekinna Stricklen went #2 and Glory Johnson #4 in their year as well.

Generally speaking, Tennessee hasn't had too many "game changers" in the WNBA. Just really Parker and Catch, followed by solid role players but not stars.

OMG senior moment! Qualifies me to run for president, either party. Completely forgot CP3! Also forgot Stricklen, surprised she went that high. How long did she play in the W?

So to make the count accurate, the LVs have had 2 #1s, 1 #2, 2 #3s, and 1#4. So RJ would be the seventh lottery pick in LV history.

Those are the only ones that I can think of, yeah. Several other first rounders (Kara Lawson, Loree Moore, Kelley Cain come to mind), but not considered lottery picks
