Well...we used to also be good at WBB. So there is that. But, almost everything is pretty good too.
It’s sad my 14 year old daughter who loves basketball can only know the stories I tell her about Pat and the great Lady Vols. It’s right there to grab this generation of youngsters and we’re fumbling it.

And now I’m sad. Thanks a lot, Debbie.

Why do we feel the constant need to compare people or ourselves to others? Caitlin Clark is an amazing women's basketball player and should be celebrated for her amazing collegiate career, that isn't even over by the way. She still has several games to play. Why does comparing her to someone from a different sport in a different era of the game make her achievements more amazing or valid?
I think it has to do with the current state of society. You know the whole whatever men can do women can do better and we don’t need men. So here you have one of the best women’s basketball players playing great. But there is no comparison between her and Maravich. It’s completely unnecessary and unfair. Some people just can’t separate men’s and women’s sports.

I think the tweet was "American" athlete? Too lazy to go back and look... May be wrong. There's gotta be a first time for everyhing.

ETA:

I'm neither as lazy as I assumed, nor as wrong as I feared possible:

Counter argument is that either Ohtani isn't American or Lionel Messi should be on his list too lol

But I did miss that initially

Big time sports news here:

Love a sport where there's a specific set of rules stating that if you have to kill a big game animal during the contest in self defense, you and your opponents must stop and gut the animal before continuing. So that race organizers can salvage the meat.

That's a pretty bad-*** sport.

* Challenges the NCAA basketball all time scoring record.

Yet the size of the hoop remains the same.

If it makes y'all feel any better, the real women's record was better than Pistol Pete's too. They didn't have size 6 balls back then. Same ball, same rim. Most basketball shots though aren't getting rejected like an arcade/carnival game. A shooter is going to adapt to how the ball bounces and use the rim to their advantage. BUT there's plenty of room (men's shots aren't getting spit out because of the ball size):

^^That's a man's bball.

Direct comparisons:

I’m sympathetic to complaints about agendas, but when those complaints devolve into trashing women and women’s athletics, I draw the line.

My baseline view: men and women are biologically different and thus the sports they play are different. They are simply not comparable. Caitlyn shouldn’t be knocked because she doesn’t play against grown men - she shouldn’t have to play against grown men. Keep the men out of women’s sports and evaluate the two sports separately.

All that said - I do think it’s notable she played long and well enough to score more points in her career than Maravich, and it should be celebrated. Does that mean she’s better than him and could beat him 1x1 on his prime? In my view, that’s not the question or even the point. He’s a man, she’s a woman and they play different sports. It’s simply that we should celebrate her achievement, and comparing it to Maravich is an interesting data point that simply shows us how unique her accomplishment is.
Stop you’re not allowed to use common sense

guess we can’t call Pat Summit one of the GOAT’s either since she didn’t have to coach against guys like Wooden and coach K 🙄

Please pray hard for my only son tonight and then tomorrow night. He has his tests on his brain starts tomorrow and then on his heart starts Wednesday. He’s only 32. I’m just sick right now and scared. He’s my baby.

I will def. be thinking of him and you. I know you and yours have been through a lot lately. Sending lots of love your way.
