Another thing to remember about Bernard King, all you old timers know...there's no telling how good he could have truly been, if he didn't have his demons. Drugs, and especially alcohol, took away from him. Hell, at UT, he had already developed alcoholism by the time he graduated...just think what his numbers could have been in college, if he had devoted his drinking time to his game, they would be unapproachable.

King averaged 25.9 points and 13.2 boards over 3 seasons at UT. He is GOAT at UT.

With all of this DK jersey retirement chatter, here is a link to the university's criteria.

Dalton Knecht should not have his jersey retired.

He's one of the best I've ever seen but don't retire the #3 jersey.

If he wins NCAA POY, then put his jersey up with BK, CL, AH and the others, but do not retire the number.

*I don't think Chris Lofton's number should have been retired either. (He's been my favorite VFL basketball player over the past 30 years). Tennessee really needs a ring of honor for past players. I just don't agree with retiring numbers in college sports.

**The only numbers UT should have retired are the ones that were KIA in WW2.

DK is amazing. There is just no way they are going to retire his number after one season of greatness. He deserves all the accolades, applause, and appreciation he is receiving but his number ain't getting retired. Sorry that bothers you.
Fair enough

From the beginning UT anticipated and prepared for an NCAA investigation.

"UT had spent tens of thousands of dollars on lawyers to look out for the interests of Iamaleava, as well as other athletes in the NIL space, by the time the quarterback enrolled. NIL deals have become a dominant factor in the success of high-level recruiting in college sports − without them, a program can't land the best players.

By hiring expert help so early, the university got ahead of NCAA investigators who targeted specific schools for breaking NIL rules that ultimately were ruled invalid by a federal court.

It’s an eye-opening revelation that the NCAA investigation which came to light on Jan. 30, was already being anticipated by UT more than year ago."

It was a juggling act to battle the NCAA in the present while preparing for a future fight.

In December 2022, BSK attorneys logged 88 hours over 16 days advising UT on the future NIL case while they also worked on the Pruitt case.

It may have seemed premature. But Iamaleava planned to enroll that month, and the NCAA already was sending out warning signs.
In December 2022, there were rumblings that the NCAA planned to target schools and high-profile recruits that it felt abused its murky and everchanging NIL rules.

Iamaleava’s recruitment fit that description.

UT’s lawyers increased their attention on the future NIL case, logging 61.5 billable hours over 18 days in January 2023, documents show. They logged another 22 days of work on the future NIL case in February 2023.

I like the idea of a ring of honor for basketball.

But if Dalton hits the criteria then he will deserve his jersey in the rafters.

Every recruit & transfer on the planet should be beating down UT's door to get in here!

We played 4-D chess. Bent over for the NCAA with Pruitt (and it worked) as a set up for this fight. Brilliant.

Its almost like our administration was being proactive and were getting ready for anything the NCAA would try to hit us with. That is leadership ladies and gentlemen. Is it to early to hand out lifetime contracts?

Bird didn't look like he was moving in slow motion
No kidding? 😆

Unless you missed the references connection, both of them played at Indiana St, are funny looking, and white dudes.

Obviously a joke, like comparing DK to Knecht for superficial reasons. But ya gotta admit Avila's passes are Bird-like 😳

I would love earned honorary jersey numbers, especially for football.

I just don't agree not ever being able to issue a particular number to a TN college player again. I want to see #5, #53, ect in use again in basketball and #45, #92, #91, ect again in football.

In my defense there’s a White Castle in Nashville…also lets have starting with the fries…white castles over krystals hands down
Krystal's serves breakfast 🧐

These fast food joints are so funny. Went to Popeye's to get some lunch last week and what was they advertising? A Filet o Fish sandwich 🤣
