It seems crazy, but he has 10.4 more WAR than Buster Posey.

When I saw y'all were talking about it my first comp was Buster, and I went to BR expecting his total to be higher.

Mauer did play in 487 more games, but that was also part of it that surprised me since they both missed so much time due to injury. I figured they played in about the same number of games but Joe played basically 3 more full seasons than Buster.

I comped Posey and McCann just because I knew BMac had more pop and less defense. Basically Posey is 10 WAR higher than B-Mac and Maurer is 10 ahead of Posey.

He was really good but he seems like one of those guys who gets in towards the end of his eligibility. Voters are so weird.

Mauer also seemed like one of these golden boy types. I think the media really liked him. The HoF voters have different standards for people they like versus people they don't like.

I'm convinced Schilling isn't in because of his politics and there was also a mutual dislike between him and the media. The only way they'd allow him in is if he had Randy Johnson or Pedro-like numbers. His numbers are "only" great instead of freakishly great, and he can't get over the higher bar that they have for him.

Kind of in line with something you (I think) have speculated before, which is Andruw is in the HoF if he retired after 2007. Andruw was also just horrible after he left Atlanta too, that might have something to do with it lol
