You reference a bygone era. African Americans were still slaves in the 1840s. Women couldn't vote then. Do you want slavery back? Do you want women's suffrage to be eliminated?

The real question is do you condone Russia's behavior today? Do you believe America should invade Mexico if ex-pat Americans living there aren't happy with the Mexican government. Would you encourage these Americans in Mexico to hold a referendum to declare Mexico as part of America.

The difference between Europeans and Americans is that Europeans think 100 kilometers is a long distance and Americans think 100 years is a long time. The rest of your statement is a non-sequitur. Whataboutism is an informal logical fallacy which means it has application sometimes but does not apply in this case.

Russians have it better than Americans? I would say Russians in big cities have it better than most Americans in big cities.

Trajectory is also an important to factor. Russia is ascending while America is quickly descending.

But we're supposed to believe this is some consumer paradise?

I am not surprised about Russian Grocery stores, when I was in Liberia over the some, a lot of locally raised goods were actually cheaper than buying stuff in USA.

Key is that, in these other nations, the housing and other options are not what they are in the USA. Russia has a significant agricultural economy and will easily be able to grow and sell crops at low process, even in a sanctioned economy.

Russians are likely paying more for electronics and manufacturing goods.

USA groceries have been increasing due to inflation and in Tennessee, specifically, the fuel tax.

Russia has plenty of food and fuel.

Also, as someone posted, salaries are probably a lot lower in Russia in USD. So they probably pull in a fraction of USA.

To me, if sanctions weren't an issue, Putin would not have alluded to it so much in his interview with Tucker. Reading between the lines, they seem frustrated by the sanctions hence his constant comments/posturing about China trade, the world changing, and sanctions hurting USD. He would not have gone into so many tirades about it if it wasn't hurting Russia.

Here's the problem with reports like these. Media are allowed to see hand selected grocery stores in North Korea where there is ample selection and supply. Those hand selected stores are not representative of the whole country. That is why they are hand selected by NK government officials.

Without Tucker's proof he was able to choose a grocery store in Russia at random, what he sees in the store is not necessarily equivalent to all the stores in Russia .
