Recruiting Football Talk VII

Don’t think people realize that it can’t continue this way. They never got past “the kids deserve some money as much as the universities are making” to see the end….a minor league. But right now we’re fighting to make sure Tennessee is allowed to be competitive.
Exactly...the minute the NCAA ruled they way they did in the Alston case...this was the inevitable result...I said it then and even though I hate it, the only way forward is a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The current chaos is insane..it makes no sense for anybody.

You identified it. You’re talking currently. McGill is furious nobody is seeing where it’s going.
I guess some are assuming that we don't see where it's going. It may be that we have an idea where it's going but value personal rights above our consumeristic desires (and the Universities'/broadcasters' desire to pocket more $$$).

Is it really for the "great good" of the community when an organization can collude to limit NIL rights? Or is the community damaged when big corp are given such rights above the individual?

Yep, but the thing is we put a lot of resources into cleaning up the house when action was taken to remove Pruitt. And our willingness to handover so much of that effort to the NCAA was met with hostility.

So this time it seems UT went, “oh hell no, we’ve already checked the books and we’re not taking these accusations lightly!”
The ending wasn't the ending, and now it's personal. The NCAA accused the chancellor and AD of not having control over their programs. Last time, the chancellor was cleaning up someone else's mess-- someone her internal investigation indicated had committed violations. This time, the NCAA said it happened on her watch and she is culpable. It's one thing to accuse someone you think is a rogue of running a rogue program-- now they're casting blame on her, Danny White and multiple coaches who put great effort in running clean programs. So this is a stand-your-ground situation.

Yeah, they were trying to paint us a in bad light. Now, if the NCAA tries to sit Nico, it’s obvious they’re singling out Tennessee.

It feels like sitting Nico is what they want above all else. I wouldn’t put it past them to say, “If you stay at TN you’re ineligible, but if you leave you can play.” It’s a dirty, corrupt organization. I hope we fight all the way to the end. I’m so sick of it.

Idk but I feel pretty good about this. Seems the major conferences are trying to take away some power regardless using this as a catalyst.

But we ought to step back and look at it. Do we want it that way?

Obviously, the ncaa is a bad egg. But would SEC and BIG ruin the whole carton? More corruption?

I think the only way it works is by committee between all conferences with a rotating president from different conference representatives

Just saying y’all are talking about two separate things.

My whole point has been that a CBA will have to be negotiated or it just becomes unmanageable chaos that will destroy everything.

You know that has been my point...of course the schools can't dictate to kids anymore without an agreement..a labor agreement has to be negotiated..and both sides have to give in a labor agreement.
That's all well and good, however... and with all due respect.

I neither asked for your point, nor directed the post in question at you. Why jump into our conversation about recruiting competitiveness, enforce your perspective, and insult people because we aren't talking about your point?

I think another factor to consider is that Nico is all Vol regardless

Not sure why anyone tries to engage with that hate filled guy. It’s non stop spewing hatred. He has been doing it so long people just tolerate it for some reason.

If the AGs hadn't filed suit, the NCAA was prepared to move forward. They influenced the timeline. The NCAA is arrogant and power-hungry, but they couldn't have wanted this fight. They must have underestimated Tennessee's willingness to meet aggression with aggression instead of cooperation.
Fool me once shame on you…. Fool me twice…. Nope we ain’t getting fooled twice…..

This tells me the ncaa was wanting to declare Nico ineligible, glad we went on the attack to spoil this plan!
UT had been around this block with baseball and Maui Ahuna. The NCAA isn't transparent, they cherrypick programs and players for selective enforcement and they overstep while doing it.

Texas' major advantage is not money, it is the fact that they are located in one of most talent rich areas of the country, Missouri is not. They are a huge brand, kids grow up wanting to go there. Five kids ever grew up dreaming to play for Mizzou. Should we force Texas to send some of its talent pool to Missouri and force people to have a lifelong love for them?
Until recently the Ohio Valley was one of the most talent rich along with California and both locales have huge brands, is it any mistake that dominant programs came from there? It's about the Jimmys and the Joes and brand. Missouri has neither and money is not going to make up the difference.
My point is that Money gives Texas even more power. In the past, yes, being located in a hot recruiting area was a huge advantage (still is). But with a salary cap, the disparity will be less in my opinion. For me, College Football and other sports are more fun when there is a broader grouping of teams competing (not just Alabama being dominant year after year).

If you can go a little further south, Boca Raton is a great and very safe area with great schools. Wellington is a very nice area too and West Delray is nice too. Some part of West Palm Bch is nice but very expensive in the nicest areas.
My in-laws live in Boca Raton - I haven’t spent a lot of time there but it seems like a good place to raise a family.

Hmmm. Maybe we aren't the only black sheep worried about arbitrary enforcement.

If we don't have that law, we need to pass it and apply it retroactively. Might as well include legal definition of booster that excludes sports management companies, and make that retroactive as well. To apply the moment NIL became legal.
