Recruiting Football Talk VII

Numerous reasons and they snowballed. UT's over-cooperation in the Pruitt investigation took LOIC off the table and UT did not expect a Failure to Monitor. Tacking that on and raising the fine at the end was a blindside-- and it was unappreciated. UT agreed to the penalties to end it, but instead of ending it, the NCAA ramped up the NIL investigation they had been backstaging for months. They kept digging and digging, bringing other marquee programs and other coaches' recruiting violations into the investigation. They tied it all together to make a case for LOIC and threatened UT with that, claiming multiple L1 and L2 violations in multiple programs. They were coming after UT, they were coming after the revenue sports and they were coming after Nico.

Not only do these alleged L1 and L2 violations reflect negatively on coaches that UT thinks very highly of, LOIC reflects directly on Chancellor Plowman and AD Danny White. The Pruitt violations were not on them nor on coaches that run clean programs, but these newer allegations put the blame squarely on the current leadership, alleging that they do not have institutional control.

UT has made a huge investment in running everything "the right way," and the chancellor has investigated internally and believes UT has self-reported all violations. The NCAA's claims and the way they have gone about everything makes it personally and highly offensive. They're calling people's character and integrity into question, and the chancellor, AD and president have made it clear how they feel about that. UT will fight and it will fight hard.
Since Country music and the NCAA has been the subjects of the day, let’s quote Miranda Lambert….

They want a fight
Well, now they got one
And they ain’t seen me
Crazy yet

Not terrible news. Denial was always a risk with this timeline, for the very reason the TRO was denied. The case has merit, that was acknowledged and it will proceed.

This is not UT's suit. Preliminary discussions with the NCAA have not gone well and took an adversarial turn. UT has already investigated internally, and the university self-imposing any more than it already has is unlikely. Aggression will be met with aggression. That's clear. So the NCAA is at a fork in the road.

Well frick, when did we become the pariah of college sports.

So are Antonio Morales and The Athletic going to defend their story that Bama tampered with the Arizona QB according to the kid's father? Or did a fixer get to them? Or do they suck up and kowtow to Bama for free?

Are there notes or recordings of Morales' interviews? Did The Athletic confirm facts before they printed his story? What does Morales say?

The dad issued a misleading and partial non-denial denial, and now it's crickets. Where are all these sportswriters so interested in NIL and portal violations and so devoted to "principles" and "the good of the game" when Bama is involved?

I dont listen to them because they never have a thing to say all week after a win and a strong performance. . . but the first time we're down by 5+ or have a couple turnovers or a bad penalty, they pop up and act like we havent won a game for years.
They’re just silly.

So, to sum up the decision today:

It doesn't technically meet the standard for the TRO to proceed but the NCAA has a week to settle/back down/etc or get embarrassed.

Is that about right?
That’s the way I read it. I actually wonder if the NCAA will back down and the NOA never arrives.

For anyone that needs it. Given the NCAA uncertainty maybe more than normal.

February 7, 2024: Refuse to allow the stress of life to overtake you. Stress is a byproduct of fear; fear of failure, fear of poverty, fear of rejection, etc. It is not My will that you live in fear. It is my will for you to live a life of faith, believing that I am with you and will be your guide, says the Lord. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
