I standby Saban is behind this so he can usher in the new league that he’s the commissioner of. Using Tennessee’s craziness to do the dirty work.

I don't really see Saban as caring about the entirety of college football beyond himself and his direct interests. (He wanted the NCAA to react to problems that were specific to his team and his role as a coach). Now that he's retired, I just don't think he's going to care all that much about what happens. Alabama isn't his alma mater and it never needed Nick Saban to be Alabama (they'd still be an all time program if he'd never coached a game there) and while he might feel the urge to protect his legacy at first, I think he'll quickly realize now that he's not in the big chair, that it's not his legacy. It's Alabama's and the more time that passes, the more Alabama will see it that way too.

Now, with that all said, I'm willing to support your theory anyway. I'm all for portraying Saban as the dictator, unable to let go. Sorta like college football's version of Putin. 🤣

I don't know about him being commissioner but he's definitely involved in all this. The basketball story that was posted about him the other day in here was very telling. Something like the UA coaches played pick up games and Nick picked the teams, called the fouls, and you better let him score. 😳

He's still butt hurt over 52-49 and Heupel signing Nico. He's narcissistic in every way.... win at all costs and if someone beats you, cry foul, change the rules, and try like heck to get them in trouble. I can't stand guys like that, even more so if they represent the mullet A.

Technically, this class isn't even over yet. I mean, it is for us, but the actual 2024 class wraps up this week. Then we get Spring practice and Spring portal. When all of that is over, then it's time to start focusing on the 2025 class. I am an organized worrier. Blame it on my OCD.
you gotta decompress, man...worry circlers, unite! Hackysacks...out!

MLB was powerless against the players union dating back to Curt Flood. They made the most of it…until Congress intervened. I don’t know if you praise them for doing the right thing after being empowered, but they jumped both feet in and have the most effective drug policy of all the professional leagues. No fan of them…but credit due.
I think you give them too much credit…. They are one worst run professional leagues….. They were weak and failed miserably against the players union. They were, however, willing to shut down a great pennant race in 1994 to try to save a little bit of money. Surely, they could have done the same for the “integrity” of the game. They lost a lot of fans that year and there is rampant speculation that MLB allowed steriods to be encouraged to bring back fans to the game… At the very least they highlighted the steroid use to increase ratings and popularity.

The party was over when congress got involved and the drug testing helped MLB try to save face. They were able to claim that the evil players union wouldn’t allow testing. MLB knew exactly want was going on during that time.

I could see Scotus agreeing with NCAA on part of not paying athletes as an inducement. But that they havent enforced their rules evenly, or, consistently.

It will def be interesting. TN will need more help.
That would be like telling someone that they can't discuss salary/benefits during interviews. Only after they were hired. It would literally be suppressing a free market, which is what the Sherman Act is there for. Either the NCAA is exempt from the Sherman Act, and can suppress, or they can't.

This is the exact argument that the AGs are making. Suppressed market.

I don't see the SCOTUS making that kind of compromise. Their verbiage so far doesn't indicate that that's where their heads are. It's all in or all out, if I had to bet.

(I am not an attorney.)
