I think it’s mostly bc he told our coaches he was coming back, signed a new NIL deal, then decided he could probably upgrade and get more somewhere else, then he signed with Kentucky. Is the hate too much though? Yeah for sure.

Many of these kids come from absolutely nothing so now they are just chasing the next bag. Show them another 10K and they think they’ve just hit the lottery. Sad state of affairs NIL has made for college football is correct.

Our fanbase is not top loaded with bad folks, they are often just the most prolific contributors with caustic takes, and feel compelled to dig in and play the repackage game and skew the impression of actual fan quality. Wish there was a way to measure total eye rolls on these boards.

Unfortunately without a DON’T LIKE button, we are limited to direct responses when individuals tolerance levels are exceeded. So still not a balanced or representative view on most controversial posts. Just an unquantifiable presence of alternate reasonable less snarky and arrogant thoughts.

My availability to treat the world with my responses has been increased as I await some surgery to return my mobility. TV and VN are way too big a part of my life right now. Being upright and taking steps are currently problematic.

Best news for the dark side is I am dealing with image supported indications of a common old fart condition with a high percentage of surgical success and my wait is in part because I have selected a really good highly sought surgeon and am in line. Doing the step by step Medicare dance has lengthened this saga.

This. People assume that just because a player has been around for a while and has played a lot that they can be depended on. But Mincey could not block above average SEC DEs. Granted, he was playing hurt… but I think it’s fair to say that we needed an upgrade in order to be serious playoff contenders. We also needed upgrades in the secondary, for that matter. Time will tell if we actually improved at the aforementioned positions, but at least our coaches are swinging hard.

~Long post~ Your comment about Medicare got me thinking about my wife and I regarding our health care. Mods can delete since I’m off topic.


First off, prayers, my friend. I never thought about health care until my wife was diagnosed with MS about 8-10 yrs ago. The patient rarely sees the physician, rather the PA or RN. Then an (medication) infusion was scheduled but postponed for months b/c insurance rejected. So the patient must wait for the physician to respond with a different medicine, one that is much cheaper.

It should not cost $100, 000 for three infusions in a five day period - ridiculous. Insurance pays most but the out of pocket is still expensive. It should not cost.

I went through a similar situation in 2016 and bounced dr to dr and finally diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis late, 2022. I’m 52 yrs old but my mother and aunt had the crippling disease. Luckily I have use of my body though l the pain is a challenge to overcome. But the specialists were not helpful and I even visited the Mayo Clinic where the final bill was $40,000 for visiting three specialists, blood work, and a cat scan.

With that said, my prayers are with you and I understand the frustration with insurance companies while you’re in need of a procedure.

It’s a broken system and our health care is a mess as physicians are being replaced with PAs and RNs.

Back to Mincey. I don’t fault the young man but I disagree how he handled the situation. But it’s no different than what occurs in the business world. I can’t tell you the number of employees have said one thing and then not showed for the work the next day. My brother experienced the same thing with one of his employees. The employee received a promotion and agreed to a a high six figure salary. A week later he said he was leaving the company.

There has been a big social-justice, "we're being exploited give us cash" component to all this, from the start. I don't think it's valid, at all--but it's the time we live in. Every student-athlete in every sport works just as hard as football players--but because football games are televised and make money, the football players deserve cash? If it weren't for the schools--public (state) institutions, mostly--there would be no football. The players didn't create college football, and they're not really employees, however much some want to claim they are. They're full-time students, first and foremost.

There is also the legal side, which I don't quite get. I don't get Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh writing that the NCAA's business model would be "flatly illegal in almost any other industry in America." College football quite clearly ISN'T like any other business or industry in America, so I'm not sure what he means--he didn't really explain, though there are supposed some anti-trust issues that I don't get, either. Football money is used to subsidize 15/20 other sports that lose money--and probably always will. No regular business does that. College football has been on TV and generating money for schools for, what, 60 years. Now, suddenly, it's a big legal issue? How come it never was in the past?

This is supposed to be college. Stanford now in the ACC. The Pac12--a prestigious, more than 100-year-old conference--gone poof. High schoolers turned financial mercenaries. 18/20 team "conferences". Players transferring two/three or more times. Tampering. $76 million to a coach to stop coaching a college team. Seriously? Winning is nice, yes, but it shouldn't mean that much to ANYBODY. It's all gotten weird, stupid, ridiculous.

What a TooL. I get wanting a better opportunity somewhere but to go to a "Rival" is pretty pathetic. At least the guys that went to Ole Miss could make the argument you wanted to compete for a title. The portal is lame....

Since NIL cannot be tied to a team and/or playing time, and Mincey evidently signed a new NIL deal before portalling, did he choose Kentucky for the proximity?

Just curious if this could wind up becoming a trend where players ink NIL deals with 2 seperate schools (so to speak) within close proximity so as to be able to comply with both.

I almost feel like he played the portal game, it didn’t work out, Heupel told him “too bad you made your choice” and he had to settle for Kentucky. He was a starting lineman here and Tennessee has ten times the exposure that Kentucky does….makes no sense otherwise.
