Why are the refs so bad this year

I was a Sixers fan back then and despised the Celtics. Now I look back at the Bird, McHale, Parrish era and marvel at the superb basketball on display. Bird was a freaking assassin. No better smack talker and worse, he always backed it up.

Sixers were my favorite team, as well. We were in Houston at a TN bowl game (1979, I think), and the 76ers were at our hotel. I was on the elevator and the Doc and his wife got on with D Dawkins. I was in awe and wished I would have said more to them. The Doc was reserved but so classy. DD was like a kid having fun. The next morning at breakfast I saw most of the team - Cheeks, Caldwell, B Jones, Steve Mix, etc. It so much fun to see those guys.

Celtics vs Lakers matchups were classic..

Bird and Magic brought back NBA from the dumps...

And David Stern realized that marketing star players was the money maker, and it became the Jordan league and the rest is history.

There would be like 2-3 opt outs per team at most previously… now it’s 5-10 minimum per team

I can see why the refs stopped the play there, Dart was about to get absolutely wrecked.

Watching these bowl games there is one thing that drives me crazy!

Every time a defensive player makes even a routine play they celebrate like they just won the Super Bowl! Hope we don’t do it Monday!

There would be like 2-3 opt outs per team at most previously… now it’s 5-10 minimum per team

OSU only had 1 opt out.

Not sure if Mizzou had any.

UT has 2 - Milton and Small. The rest are the in the portal. They’re not opting out for the NFL.

5-10 opt outs for a single team (not including portal entrants) is nearly unheard of.

Now should they change when the portal opens? Sure. But that’s got nothing to do with opt outs.

If the rumors about Nico being hurt and out vs AP and UF are true, I wonder how much that effected the qb plans for this season. If they’re true, I wonder if he would have seen time vs AP when the offense was struggling if he wasn’t hurt, and I wonder if he would have seen more time or even started earlier this year than just the bowl game

I always find the debate on hating rivals interesting. I too had a staunch policy until some cousins and a brother in law joined the mix with rival affiliations, and i became older. I don't like their teams, but I like all of them, and they are fantastic to talk football with as long is it is shared rival. My one cousin gets some extra annoyance from me because he is insufferable (UGA) in winning, but takes his losses well enough.

As far as the Bama love I have been claimed to possess. I do hate them probably second to UF, but I will confess I am pretty impressed with what Saban has achieved. I have talked about them more than normal this year, because I think this may be one of Saban's best coaching performances, and the man is 70.
He will finish as likely the goat. IMO not as a Bama coach, just as a coach. I think there are a couple of schools Saban could have performed his feats at. Some maybe even easier than Bama. It was just our unfortunate luck he ended up at Bama. For that i truly despise them.

Same as it was Vandy's and Bama's luck that Neyland ended up with us. I can always respect greatness when I see it. I hate Tom Brady with a passion, but he was a bad ass.

I felt the way you did till Nick went on TV crying about the playoffs trying to get in then complaining when they did not. The way he handled the punch of our co-ed made me lose what respect I had started to recognize he deserved. He is a punk in my book after especially with the player punch.
