Recruiting Football Talk VII

Hats off to Joe. He stuck it out, was a great teammate, and continues to be to allow Nico to prepare for next year. He’s been an excellent leader and VFL.
100%

He opted out as well. He chose to not risk it, for the combine and draft, and I 100% can't blame him.

His choice and his call. Glad to see Heupel just embrace it and get Nico up to speed in what could be a very tough first challenge.

Another example of Heupel putting his players above himself.

I don't think so. I think they've had a plan from when they first recruited nico. I wouldn't be surprised if the plan was to start him in the bowl game if we didn't make the playoffs or an NY6 bowl.
Maybe so...I just don't believe boosters had 💩 to do with it...if they did it would be a REALLY bad thing for the future of the program.

When you stated people would over react when they found our Nico would start...

Plus have tremendous expectations for his first ever start...

I didn't believe you but you were correct...

You are the KING..👀👀
Lol...in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king..😏

Since when is realism "negative"...is it just because you don't want it to be true?...I agree with you...I don't want it to be true either.

I'm not bitching and pissin at the staff...I'm not the one going toxic about every little thing that doesn't go like I want it to or think it should....that is true negativity, and I've not done that.
No, you haven’t. You’re the guy that can spot a problem no one else sees. You won’t be popular. My husband is like that.

that’s freshman weight doesn’t mean S**t and that’s average for his height. You’ll see..that’s one thing about the big 10 you don’t mess with is their DL and LB’s Iowa and Wisconsin especially they’re bruisers.. big 10 thrives on being run stoppers..that’s why they’re so boring to watch.
He is not a scat back, you will soon find out! GBO

I think Iowa will have a few busts on defense.

Will be interesting to see if Nico can take advantage of them.

I would also take the over on Nico rushing for 50 or more yards.
This is my guess.

They'll get flipped backwards a few times and we'll find chunk plays to score easy TDs.

Also think they'll keep us out of the EZ most drives and our inexperience will show.

Vegas is thinking a 22-13 type of game. I'm still thinking something like that, maybe closer to 20-13 now. But hoping for a blowout from play 1.

Could also see Nico rush for 35 yds+ and go over 250 total yards.

Either it's close like you think, or our speed overwhelms them and we kick their corn up and down the field again. If we don't have a clear athletic advantage then they'll give our offense a bunch of issues....maybe the secondary gets leaky.
If...big IF because they have not done it all year for good reasons and I doubt they do it in Nicos first trial by fire...they call more middle of the field plays to find holes in Iowas zone AND Nico has time to see and hit them consistently...we very well could have a good game offensively.

I just don't think we will see that big of a difference playcalling in THIS game. I think they will probably stay relatively conservative in Nicos first start and try to win a slugfest.

That's why I predicted a 20-13 type score.

This is an enemy commentator (UGA), but he probably brings some of the best film and player evals of any YouTube person in the space. IMO. At 1:21 he talks about the stakes of the UT QB play in our bowl. It is brief snip, but worth a listen. His stance is this may be a harder freshman start than Bama or UGA due to the expertly disguised zone coverage Iowa runs. He says if Nico plays anything other than trash, he'll be calling him potentially the dude. He's had our number in recent years both positive and our negatives, so this is high praise, but also a warning in case Nico has a rough go.

He also made a wise case on why Milton would want no part in facing a stout NFL style defense prior to likely being the talk of the combine.

I read some time ago that it's harder to disguise coverages against the wide sets that Heupel uses. As I recall the logic was that the DB's and LB'ers have to show their hand in advance or risk being too far away to get in position when the ball is snapped. I'm far from an expert but that seemed logical. Either way, if Heupel is able to go fast with the personnel he has available, the Hawkeye defense will know they're not in Iowa anymore.

What a sweet way to say you excel in

Jmo, but I can't grasp this. The NFL has elite parity. The best teams can easily have 4 or 5 losses.

Maybe if you like to see dominance vs parity. Sort of why some like EPL vs Premier League. To each his own...but close games are fun and it at least has that huge advantage over other football. Watch Redzone any Sunday and you'll see game after game go to the wire. Half of college games are blowouts from the start tbh.

It's also amazing how fast the game is. I think that's what made me begin to appreciate it. Comparing it to most of CFB is like mollasses...just how dang fast they get off the ball, the QB must get rid of the ball, etc. Pretty amazing to watch.

But I'll always love cfb 100x more because it's what I grew up on and I actually have a team to root for. I mean, like the Niners and root for em, but there's no love there 😆
It is sooooo sloppy now...I can't help it that you can't remember what great NFL play looked like.

You still have to read it and decide where to go. Hooker was good at seeing it quick. Milton was not. Nico I believe will, but is he ready now?
