Some of these posts are incredible. Put yourself in the same situation with your business or company. Would you leave to another company for a $10k- $20k raise a year? I would give my company a chance to offer but if another company sees me as more valuable -im gone. He needs to show zero loyalty to UT. He's given his all for TN when he played. Hope he gets rewarded well.

College football has become a free agent sport. That's what killed baseball for me in the late '70s, and it looks like college football is headed down the exact same road. Absolutely no team loyalty.

He's a good player, so best of luck to him.

Your opinion is wrong.

Think about this for a minute. Baron is a pro caliber player; is Tennessee better or worse as a team with him on the roster? They’re absolutely a better team; Baron also would’ve had more sacks and pressures this year if not for the BS holds on him so he’s better than his stats as well.

Was there ever loyalty to begin with or did players just not have much of a choice? I think if the transfer portal was around in the 90s we would have seen the same thing as we’re seeing now.

There’s a little more attachment than a job. It’s your school and your state. And safe to assume they have tighter bonds with teammates and school friends than everyone does with work “friends”.

As long as we aren’t low balling the kid it’s pretty sad to see.

He will likely go undrafted. Not saying he can’t help us though and makes us better.

Fans get played for their crazed fandom all the time, by every sport and governing body, because they know fans will watch AND they'll
make more money. College football has become seedy. Recruiting has become: "how much ya gonna pay me?" Transfers, the same. It's ugly. Seedy.

The only reason players were "loyal" previously was because transferring wasn't easy.

Given that most colleges have been paying players for decades and decades, the only thing that kept them from looking for a better offer was the NCAA transfer rules.

Ok we will see. If they want him back badly enough they’ll find the money. I don’t expect him back.

Exactly. Loyalty is going out there and busting your ass for this program. This kid has done that. Do you see him taking plays off or constantly pushing? Why the F shouldn’t he get paid if underclassmen are getting paid to sit on the bench?

Who said he’s not getting paid and paid well? We don’t know what he’s getting.

I would argue , why doesn't my admin, coaches, see the same value in me that another team does? They've seen what I can do, blood, sweat, tears, all that. If they don't, no hard feelings. If they do, pay me commiserate with my value

Maybe they think those underclassmen can match his production? In some cases, it’s time for the 5th and 6th year guys to move on. This is a position that I believe they think they can fill.

There are more critical spots to allocate those resources (online, secondary, etc).

Because mediocre schools like Kentucky are going to be willing to pay more since the roster is junk. He would be a top 5 talent on their squad.

Isnt this what the pros are for? "Brothers"? You dont just abandon your "Brothers". Why cant young men just have fun playing the game and getting a free ride? I've always said that this will lead to a "farm system" for professional fball. Those that dont want an education and just want to play football should have the opportunity to work on their skills in another venue separate the NCAA. The NFL has been using the NCAA for their FREE farm system for years. The NFL has the money to create a nationwide farm system like the MLB has.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a change in the NIL rules allowing the collective (or school if the changes are made) to require 2-3 year personal services contracts. It's not sustainable long term without them.
