Addison Nichols to the portal

NGL, it does concern me that a bunch of O-linemen seem to be bolting. You can say they weren't good enough, but then what does that say about our OL recruiting?

Nobody knows how they’ll pan out in college.

Just because they dominated in high school, doesn’t mean it automatically translates to the college level.

You’re pretty much taking risks on every player you recruit.

"A bunch" equals 2 dudes that I'm not sure ever took a snap or ever would have. Bama had a backup QB transfer to play an entirely different sport. Do you think they're concerned about their QB recruiting?

Teams like Bama and OSU with high classes would say otherwise.

Sucks but if you can’t beat out Ollie Lane then I’m not too worried.

He was a Freshman, possibly true freshman. He could be a real gem after 3 years of S&C.

With that said, I wonder if he was nudged out or wanted to get a starting gig at a smaller school? Or even homesick, wanting to go back to Georgia.

Nichols played most of the Vandy game.
Actually, Nichols played in all 12 games this year. He's a redshirt freshman with 3 years of eligibility remaining. We signed 5 OL in the 2022 class. Savion Herring left after the 2022 season and now Nichols and Clipper (5 games) have entered the portal so we have two guys - Brian Grant (11 games) and Masai Reddick (10 games) - who will be redshirt sophomores next year (provided neither decided to hit the portal).

Yikes, almost as bad as dooley not taking an OL in one recruiting year (way before the transfer portal)!

We signed 5 and have 2 remaining after 2 years...no doubt we'll pick up one or two in the portal, but it just goes to show how important it is to sign at least 5 offensive and defensive linemen in every class. There really is no 2021 class remaining - that was the class Pruit signed before he was fired, and he only had 2 OL.

I remember that class and being encouraged by the emphasis on the OL. I really thought Nichols would be a good one. Now we are stuck having to go to the portal for what should be a developmental position. Disappointing.

No disrespect to the young man. I'm sure he'll find a place and succeed. But they tried every way to find a niche for him. They badly wanted him to be C. But he never really found a place he played well.
I get this, but he's just in his 2nd year. O-line is a position that tends to heavily favor upperclassmen. Was he really so bad that he couldn't break through in the next few years?

None of the other portal moves have surprised me, but this one does.
