We'll promote from within.
More than likely. I have a lot of trust in Heupel...what he's done since he got to town is a miracle, imo...so, I'll trust his decision, whatever it may be.

Whenever Pruitt was fired, I gave myself 5 years of patience for whoever we hired...that's how big of a mess he left...stacked upon the decade mess before him. Heupel has more than won me over in 3. Yes, I do have some concerns, maybe questions more than concerns; but, I trust Heupel will figure it out.

Good post. Totally agree. We forget he is still a new head coach. He will change and adjust over time. I bet he would change a few things already but we are night and day better than three years ago.

I will add, Smyrna...that 5 years of patience, that was just to get us back to respectability, to wash us clean of the sh!t heap we were...to move us away from being the punch-line of every single college football joke. I figured it would take even longer to challenge in the conference; while we still have a bit of a way to go, we are moving that way fairly quickly.

First off, while I don't dismiss it, I don't put nowhere near as much stock in PPG as some of you do. Yes, it's a stat that should be considered, absolutely; but, it's also a stat that doesn't always tell the entire story. Example: last year, UGA gave up 14 PPG, Bama 18 PPG. Did it feel like, to you, UGA's D was only 4 pts better than Bama's? Not even in the same ballpark, imo.

Durkin has been pretty successful everywhere he's been, as DC; and, is highly thought of by the likes of Meyer, Harbaugh, and Muschamp...while Muschamp isn't much of a HC, the dude does know defense. Durkin is also legit on the recruiting trail.

What about you? If Banks takes the MTSU job, who'd be your first phone call?

No idea honestly. Could be convinced that a lot of different DCs could be successful here once the young talent gets rolling.

Banks must be very confident he will be successful as a head coach to take a $400k pay cut. . .
I mean that all depends on the situation. If he thinks MTSU is a good spot for him to win then you definitely take the pay cut to advance your career. I wouldn’t take a pay cut to go somewhere that I think will be difficult to win at, but MTSU is set up pretty nice. Stockstill had good success in the past. He just got stagnant. Been there too long. No idea where that roster is at talent wise though. Banks would need to look at what it’d take to win and if he thinks he can do it quickly with that roster.
