Recruiting Football Talk VII

Like I said in the post you responded too...this was a losing team with a bad coach.

I pointed out over and over again the easily identifiable, obvious flaws the roster had going into the season, especially with the inevitable injuries that would come...we went to UF already down our most important LB and Ol...plus got a inarguable screw job from the refs....that we lost there was not as surprising to me as it was to others...because of their "expectations" instead of reality.
You have got to be kidding me. Our best LB? That is Beasley and has been for a while. Pili played a half of football for us and somehow was the best linebacker ever.

I hope he is great next year but we know nothing about him yet.

College footballs highest scoring offense this season LSU ...averaged around 46 ppg....vs college defenses.

LSU wouldn't score 17 points vs San Francisco defense in NFL....

247 class updates:

Barring an unforeseen development, the Vols appear to be finished at quarterback in the 2024 class, and Merklinger hasn't shown any signs of wavering on his commitment.

Daniel Hill is the only noteworthy RB name still on the Vols' board. Alabama remains the unanimous favorites to land Hill, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but Tennessee remains a contender following his official visit to Knoxville the weekend of Sept. 30.

It remains to be seen whether Tennessee will go all-in on adding another receiver to its 2024 class. But the Vols have continued to recruit Virginia Tech commitment Chanz Wiggins of King George (Va.) High School

Four-star TE Roger Saleapaga of Orem, Utah, visited Tennessee for the first time in June and returned on an official visit the weekend of Nov. 18 for the Vols' game against Georgia. He appears to be Tennessee's most realistic option at the position leading up to Early Signing Day. Oregon remains the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite to land Saleapaga

Tennessee has already received commitments from at least five offensive linemen. There's a chance the Vols won't make any late additions along the offensive line, but there's still one big name worth watching down the stretch. Five-star Jordan Seaton of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. — They appear to be one of the top contenders for him entering the final weeks of his recruitment

Vols looking for help in DL. Missouri commitment Elias Williams could flip to either the Vols or Alabama in the coming weeks. His timeline for announcing a final decision remains unclear. There's still perhaps an outside chance for four-star Florida commitment Amaris Williams (Ohio State is currently the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite). Tennessee is also in the running for a trio of junior-college defensive linemen. Brien Taylor , Kemari Copeland , and Jamal Wallace

Tennessee has already received commitments from a pair of highly ranked edge rushers. There's a good chance Tennessee won't add another edge rusher to its class down the stretch, barring an unforeseen development.

A pair of linebackers joined Tennessee's class by the end of the summer. Tennessee recently hasn't been involved with any other Class of 2024 linebackers and appears to be finished at the position, barring an unforeseen change of plans.

Tennessee hasn't added a cornerback to its class in more than nine months, but the Vols are still hoping to land another cornerback down the stretch. After Bates decommitted from the Tigers on Nov. 13, the Vols emerged as one of the favorites to land him. But Florida State is the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite to land him. Tennessee is believed to be the team to beat for former Vanderbilt cornerback Jaren Sensabaugh

Tennessee appears to be finished at the safety position, barring an unforeseen development.

Dang, we need to be looking into all the linebackers we can find, but overall it sounds like a boring signing day outside of Seaton.

Every athlete is every sport are overpaid ...including NIL guys who don't produce on field...

JMU is this seasons Detroit Lions in the NFL...
Nah. Detroit is one of 30 something teams. If they have a great season out of the blue, they only need to be better than 10 bad teams and 6 meh teams.

JMU should get a bowl game against a power 5 school and a chance to prove themselves further. It would be interesting if the collegiate national champions got a chance to play against an NFL team. Maybe a clinic bowl against the 1st team to not make the NFL playoffs. That should be similar to a team like JMU playing a top5 college program. I'd watch the National Champ play against a meh NFL team.

NFL would never allow it. They have to protect their money machine at all costs. Couldn't imagine the damage that would be done if a college team was even competitive against an NFL team.

I do wonder how long the NFL would survive if you took away gambling.

Not closing well in recruiting. Seaton is obviously a huge toss up and he alone would be a massive get but looks like we may strike out on both Williams, Bates, Saleapaga, and Hill.

Maybe Sensabaugh and one of the JUCOs but def seems like backup options

Ok, I guess.

I think Spyre is pretty well known - And it’s pretty well known they raise money for NIL.
I think most Vol fans are aware we are paying $Millions for Nico.

But what would “doing more / telling you” look like here? What should Spyre & UT be doing? Paint a picture of what good what look like here.

I'm not exactly sure what they should do but they definitely need to advertise more.

Two of my longtime buddies. Both UT alumni. One of them a years long season ticket holder. Both big football fans......Had zero clue who or what Spyre was...No idea that it even existed.

I think we bought and paid for Seaton a few weeks ago. . . 🤞

Advertising for sure, but they need to be transparent about the money. Outside of Nico, I couldn't tell you who on the team has an NIL deal or what brand they're supposed to be representing.

People on here said the same thing about AJ Johnson his first couple years. He was fantastic as a senior. Still hanging on an NFL roster IIRC.

Some of you all too quick to fire a young guy.
Herring could be a bust but it’s too early to tell. People gave HankHill 💩 when he said Banks and Beasley would be good when they were struggling and he was correct. Everybody plays slow when they don’t know what they are doing…

I wonder what Ole Hank is up to. Haven't seen him around in a minute.
