Recruiting Football Talk VII

The nfl has an office in New York for all replay don't they?
Idk. I was asking because I remember us discussing it a while back and you responding that someone of some expertise went ballistic at the idea of head office (i.e., officials outside of the game's crew) involvement real time in game officiating.

Note: I don't think facts of matter, as far as our games are concerned, require this "backstory" (or any other "backstory") to be legitimate. The calls and no calls are there to be analyzed. I just wanted to ask you before I forgot about it.

Deion told them he is leaving, or Deion is looking funny in the light and they're all coming to their senses

Could you imagine Deion leaving after one year, after running off their team? Sell your soul for a losing season...

Also, I don't think he's leaving. I think it's just the recruits that are leaving.

How many of these Alabama players do you think are suspended for the first half of the SEC championship game? 🤣 That's a lot of no calls.

I guess Sankey will suspend them after the fact from Birmingham like he did Jauan. Prolly right this minute he is on it. 🤣

I guarantee they were getting orders through their earpieces from the Birmingham office, telling them to not throw any flags because they would have to eject guys then. There is nothing good that has come out of referees having earpieces in during the game. It needs to be done away with.

Probably true, But Prime at UCLA would be entertaining.

For all the wrong reasons.

Besides, he can't take his sons with him, so he stays at Colorado.

Idk. That's why I was asking you. You are my officiating expert. At any rate, that appears to be the source of the idea that the Birmingham office directly participates in replay officiating during games.
That would make sense. I'm pretty sure the nfl does that, and I'd guess the other conferences do too.

But any kind of nefarious conference intervention wouldn't come through that channel. It would go directly via phone call to the white hat of a crew. There's zero chance the conference could involve multiple members of every crew and all the replay officials. Human nature is such that someone would have spilled the beans by now if that many people were involved. That would be a juicy multi million dollar TMZ story, someone would have caved.

If the conference were trying to influence games via replay, we'd all see it. I don't see anything crazy about a central office getting involved in replay since other leagues do it.

I was on their site and they have zero (0) Gruden threads, and very sparse Gruden posts in their Hot Board thread

Disappointing

I seem to recall seeing something in the past week claiming that Birmingham's head of officiating participates remotely, but I don't remember where I saw it. It has been my impression for many years that is the case. But I don't know.
I posted this story the other day.....

2016 AL local news story about the "command center". Steve Shaw (AL alumni) says at the end of the video that calls get "reofficiated" during repl

Steve Shaw leaves the SEC after nine years and will continue to be the Secretary-Rules Editor for the NCAA Football Rules Committee.

*the front line "fair catch" when we played alabama was initiated by the review team. There were no flags on the play and the ball was spotted when the review team stopping play to move the ball back to the 4 yard line.

Honestly the decline of sec officiating began when Steve Shaw left. They've been plain bad the past 5 years, irrespective of corruption or alleged meddling by the conference. They're just not as good as other conferences in my opinion.

Alabama was a lot better when Steve Shaw was SEC coordinator of the referees.

Thanks. As I later appended to my post: I don't think facts of matter, as far as our games are concerned, require this "backstory" (or any other "backstory") to be legitimate. The calls and no calls are there to be analyzed. And the pattern is vividly clear imo. I just wanted to ask you before I forgot about it. I didn't understand or recall exactly what you had said about someone being alarmed at someone outside of the in-stadium crew weighing in on a call. And I wondered where I got the idea that it was normally done. So that's clarified.

That's interesting.
Alabama was a lot better when Steve Shaw was head of the SEC referees.
And that's funny!
