Not sure where to find it, but I swear I heard a stat on the radio the other day that we allow teams to convert something like 60% on third and long conversions. That is NOT good. I don't hate Tim Banks. Nothing against him at all. But I think our DBs are woefully undercoached, and those soft zones Banks keeps calling are killing us.
The zones are bc he has zero confidence i us playing straight up. If its a coaching, or Jimmy/Joe issue. They needa fits dat.

Just stating facts, which some of y'all don't like, but get over it, the defense has improved.
Facts are whatever you seem to make them out to be. They're not better at all when you consider two things, our opponents last year and not having a prolific offense to disguise the pathetic defense.

The dline has gotten better and it showed early
But when the line wasn’t playing lights out the dbs were the same ole slow non skilled players the have been for 3 years
That’s on him bc he refuses to play young guys and if they aren’t better then what we have it’s his fault for poor recruiting

You do realize that we are playing walk-ons and true freshmen. We have 2 freshmen that are out due to injury.

Poor recruiting on the defensive side of the ball? Ok. Your perspective.....🤣

Heupel is the man and he will do well here, but to say we don’t have red flags is an understatement.

Why did Mincey not start? All the sudden he can play for a series when another player gets injured? Seems like some players are checking out games before seasons end.

We have had three years with this staff and with the portal, you can flip a roster quickly. It’s excuses saying we lack depth. We have like 17 scholarship DBs and refuse to play more than six and rather put a walk on in.

The only position group on defense that looks well coached and is getting talent is the DL. And when they don’t get home or cause chaos, our defense looks like hot garbage.

Where are the difference makers at LB and DB? Doesn’t look like we have any and we didn’t address it in three years. Only true difference maker athletically and physically to me is Carter who will be great here, but you have to recruit numerous players like that. And who says Pili, he played one half against a scrub team.

Truly think our offensive woes are QB related and that is over soon. They are going hard on OL portal and keeping players here already. RB and WR is good and getting more and more talent.

I don’t think Heupel is happy at all which is a great sign that changes are coming and NIL $$$ needs to be spent.

I will say I think the LB group really got bit by inexperience AND injuries hitting all at once. Granted, we should have had better depth to offset that...but Pili going down and then Beasley playing hurt and then even Carter got hurt. We were left with guys that were very inexperienced. I think next year we'll see some big strides in that group because of this season forcing staff to just put them out there. But for this season it was a challenge for sure, especially against teams with the talent/scheme to expose it.

Agree with the rest. I think Joe's limitations hindered the play calling, the staff will never admit it though. But I think his inability to run the ball all but eliminated RPO from our arsenal this year and that was one area where we really took advantage of teams in the red zone with Hooker.

We were #22 in defensive stop rate last year with one of the toughest schedules in college football. That is excellent considering the roster and depth issues as well as the fast paced scoring on offense, so what are you talking about, that's just an ignorant statement.

I hope this is a turning point for the UTAD. Maybe they now realize we need upgrades on staff and in talent. We can’t have more of that lifeless play and be a potential playoff team in the future. If we cannot make a 12 team playoff in the next year or 2 then we’ll basically relegate ourselves to “havenots” in the league and never get out.
Not the UTAD. CJH chose status quo last year and promoted from within where necessary. He will have the same choice this year. UT is giving him both support and space to manage and optimize his personnel.

Your little stats about the defense don’t matter when we get crushed by teams with strong offenses

My little stats are what coaches are judged on by their peers, and based on that, defense has gotten better overall, year after year, even considering the roster issues, depth issues and playing along side of a fast offense last year and an offense this year that has regressed and is struggling to score.
