Going against the norm here on this one. But Michigan learning hand signs that teams use over and over is a big ‘meh’ to me.

I do t think it's them learning them that's the problem, it's how they got the information to learn them.
1. Advanced in person scouting as this is deemed illegal in the NCAA rule book( from what I've seen this is due to a cost issue as smaller schools can't afford to fly assistants all over the country.
2. Use of video recording devices to record signals, which again is noted as illegal in the NCAA rule book.
3. Potential computer hacking which is a federal crime hence the FBi involvement.

#3 (at least at present) appears to be a totally different issue related to an assistant coach who was attempting to access UM students' emails. But you're absolutely correct re: #1 and #2.

This deal isn't about them deciphering another team's signals during a game, which is totally legal and frankly I'd question a team that doesn't try and do it.

Hmmmmm. I hadn't see the part about hacking students emails. I just saw the allegations about hacking Ohio St practice video. If it's about emails that's really really bad.
