The Vols defense can hold its own against any team, but the offense is going have to play better and score more points if they want to beat the really big boys. That, imo, is on the offensive coach and play calling.

As a person, Joe Milton is a class act but he isn’t an SEC quarterback. He just can’t make enough plays. If Nico isn’t ready, I get it but we aren’t going to win many games with 100 yards passing. I’m happy for the win but the offense has got to get better and I just don’t think it’s going to with Joe at quarterback.

You mean passing offense. We had 100 passing yards. If we double that this game isn't close. And 200 would be low. 100 is absolutely abysmal.

Milton has missed too many throws, the receivers have dropped too many passes, and the o line has had too many procedure issues and penalties to lay it solely on the offensive play calling. The only consistent group this year has been the RBs.

The drop off in efficiency on offense from last year to this year has been a collective effort.

Just to throw a HUGE fact into this…we will miss McCoy greatly going forward. He set the edge, blocked down field, and had incredible reliable hands for a needed first down. First game without him showed. Most of the running yards were made up the middle today. Defense has matured a lot and understands their assignments at a high level.

How can you watch Joe Milton play football and come to the conclusion that play calling is the issue? Why do you think the play calling is so limited?
Well, a lot of it has to do with how much decision-making and responsibility the offensive staff gives Milton on any one play.

Other 4th down, for instance, there is no reason to give him a play to run that requires him to diagnose so much when it's clear they don’t trust him. You don't roll him out on 4th and 2 and make him determine in a split second whether to keep the ball and run for the 1st (when he's shown a knack for not knowing where the marker is on more than one occasion) or throw the ball on the move, which he's shown he cannot do with any shred of accuracy.

That's a terrible play call for the skillet and football IQ of your quarterback.

Joe Milton is a problem, but his coaches have to do a better job giving him plays that allow him to succeed and play to his abilities.

Outside the obvious QB issues....we aren't seeing the WR's getting as open as we are used to.
I heard someone say wide receivers that can stretch the field might be the most important thing for an offense to have outside the trenches. I think we're definitely seeing that effect on offense this year.

Ok, then what do they call? Do we just try and run it again? Do we completely eliminate the passing game?

Are they better off trying to run their offense and or just running the ball every down because they don’t trust their QB? Even in your scenario, the play call was good. Any competent QB could’ve converted that. Joe is the problem. Not the coaching.

We need Milton to run more and not out of bounds. He at the end started getting physical. Start of game he ran out of bounds before the first down marker. His arm is either to powerful or to short. The problem is we don’t have a great receiver that can correct his mistakes. Thornton is a complete failure so far. Run the ball. We can run on anyone even lame Texas AnM. Should have beat them by more if we could run the ball more. Lol

Seriously though. I hope the passing game can get synced together.
