You have fewer options with the traditional route.Analytics or not. . . they tried to explain it. It was a terrible choice at the time. Why not kick the XP and when you wanna go for the win, just go for 2 when you score the next time? Leaves you with more options at the end.
Either way, it was a terrible choice, especially since they missed it and were forced to go for 2 if they did score again.
If you fail the 2 pt conversion after the 2nd TD, you've lost. Game over.
If you go with this strategy and fail the 2 pt attempt, then you have a 2nd attempt as well to go to OT.
You have to accomplish all the same things in either case, so better to have that information now rather than later and have more opportunities.
