Also, I don’t think Acuna is a good defender, based off what I’ve seen, I don’t think he’s terrible and a zero like some of the stats claim he is

For example savant has him in the 30th percentile because of his arm. I think below average is fair.

Definitely not a “natural” in the outfield, but his arm does cover up some of his deficiencies.

The more annoying portion is that we’ve had a few seasons in the past where a player had a higher WAR but other factors led a different player to MVP. Which is fine. WAR has and never will be perfect and should be used as a tool, not the answer.

The annoying part is it’s Mookie Betts and it’s the Dodgers. If Jorge Soler of Miami or Christian Yelich of Milwaukee or Michael Conforto of San Fran, not one national media person would be making a case for those guys. But it’s an LA boy, so we have to make it interesting!

Kris Bryant had a higher fWAR than Giancarlo Stanton in 2017 and Bryant made the playoffs but Stanton hit 59 home runs so the national media was like “oh that’s cute, we should give it him” instead. Which is fine. Just don’t change the standards.
