Please DON'T start Nico [Nico merged]

OC Joey Halzle said there's nothing about the operation of the Tennessee offense that would improve with Nico Iamaleava at QB right now because Joe Milton III is "operating at a really high level."

I'm surprised he finds anything about this offense "operating at a really high level."

I don't think we can accept that as an excuse. There is turnover every year in CFB. It will actually be worse next year for the Vols. Also, all of those guys except the LT have multiple years in the system... and the LT played pretty well.
Campbell is doing well at LT, replacing Darnell we knew would be a chore this year, also replacing a lot of experience in Jerome Carvin, Coop hasn’t been available at center… Spraggins is the one hold over from last year that has been available and reliable.

O line play impacts skill position play I think if that is worked out, the rest of the pieces fall into place; I’ve wondered if that is why there has been more quick pass/screen plays this year vs. last so that the pass blocking doesn’t necessarily have to hold up as long…

The answer to that is probably yes. However I think Spraggins has had a very disappointing season so far. He's the one committing penalties and getting beaten. Lane hasn't been a great sub for Mays... and that's pretty concerning.

I felt sorry for Lane. Tough to come in and play Center, but he just didn’t have a chance out there.

The offense has looked like garbage from the first game and it starts with Milton. I like Milton and was extremely hopeful but he’s just not going to be a good qb. He still has accuracy issues. I would think some plays would be designed for him to run but he’s scared to get hit. It’s obvious. On 4th and 6 he throws it in the dirt. There’s been multiple times where we just have to give guys a chance and he can’t do it. He tries to check out of plays with 3 seconds on the play clock. For all his physical attributes he just isn’t going to get it done at this point and if we’re willing to throw away a season to allow it then we deserve what we get.

The audible with :04 on the play clock and then getting a free play with too many men on the field and throwing a check down rather than a deep shot just tells me the game isn’t going to ever slow down for Milton.

He is kind of a scapegoat. He has no business being out there and wasn't supposed to be. He probably didn't even want to use his extra year this season, but is wanting to live out a local football player's dream.

Is Milton capable of running this hurry up offense? I have noticed that in the three games that the offense is set, but he stops and stares at the sideline. Sometimes to the point where the clock runs out or have to burn a timeout. He has all the talent in the world for QB, but is he having trouble reading the defense and calling an audible without needing it called in?
He ran the offense at a high level against Clemson. Now what was the biggest difference in that game? OL was much better and Cooper played. Why is it some fans just have forgotten about that game?

Milton - Heisman Candidate??? - I guess him throwing the ball 80 yards like 100s of other people can makes him that candidate. In the Orange Bowl he did have a supporting cast but now he has nothing but McCoy and watching him in the hurry up is nauseating. One game doesn't make a Heisman Candidate. He shouldn't be on the field at this point but there really is no other choice than playing a green Nico. I think that's the direction we should be heading but time will tell. If we continue to play we are going to be a 3 star recruiting school or another stepping stone....
Good grief

UF does have a big physical D-line and why we kept trying to run right at it even if we had numbers is beyond me. They suckered us in to doing what they wanted

I'm not being "mean" or anything and truly respect his effort and dedication... but he just isn't very talented.

Yet it did for the Clemson game.
I’d have to go back and watch that one again, but honestly I just remember a bunch of short throws and getting the ball out quick. He’s just not going to scan the field, look off coverage or improvise a lot. When he finishes his drop, the ball has to either come out or look for the check down. The second he stands there looking for the 2nd route, everything seems to fall apart.

I know exactly what you are saying. He had a stretch in there where he had 2 or 3 penalties and just kept getting beat.

His accuracy is at 64% right this minute. That’s better than Bray, Martin, Clausen and Dobbs. Cooper being out has really hurt. You really need to listen to some people who actually know the game of football and played it at a high level. You will see why you are just wrong.

I bet the number of horizontal passes are greater than 64%.

It’s not this year.
Never said it was. You referenced our third downs for the Clemson game. I just showed you how irrelevant that stat is when you win. Also, if you think Milton is the bigg st problem with this offense then you are sadly misinformed. Like I said. Listen to some people ho actually know the game and are much more than just upset fans.

Milton is absolutely the problem. Lol we got a top notch guru here. 🤣😂🤡

The problem is his YPA is probably around 7 vs about 10 last year. That requires better pass protection, but I’ve been surprised we’re not better getting some of the intermediate throws.
