Heard a guy in the break room telling others to buy some cayenne pepper, cause it would immediately stop a heart attack if you just put it in your mouth.🙄

When DXH (dear ex-husband, then still husband), called me at work to admit that he’d had chest pain for 60+ hours, left shoulder, left arm, and neck pain/ discomfort for 36+, and “feeling weird for a while”, and should he go to the ER, I told him to eat two full-strength (not “baby”) aspirin, stay out of the car, and wait for me on the driveway. (No point in EMS by then.)

Yes, it was a full-blown heart attack, and yes, it could have been milder/ less damaging if he’d gone for help sooner, and yes, it ended his career as a pilot for UT.

The aspirin was a good 48+ hours too late to avoid heart muscle damage. (This is the actual thing to worry about with heart attacks, which are interruptions or reductions of blood flow in the coronary arteries that supply your heart muscle, generally from blood clots or broken-off cholesterol plaques in the arteries; sometimes from muscle spasms in the arteries.)

Cayenne pepper wouldn’t have done much, lol.

Always interesting to me that when people trumpet “there’s no medical evidence!!!”, it’s because when you make something Schedule I, no one is allowed to research it. So, duh.
I had heard of the pain relief alternative to opiods, but never thought about how until that acclimation period there'd be increased ER trips and falls for a group more prone to that anyway. I like Gupta.
