The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

Then why didn't Trump's DOJ charge her? That's the part I don't get especially after his "Lock her up" slogan. And don't say something stupid like he wouldn't use the government that way. You know better than that.

Until this administration we don’t have a history of prosecuting political rivals and the prior administration granted everyone involved immunity with no requirement to testify. Those would be my best guesses as to why.

Without the Ford pardon, they would have gone after Nixon.

First thing we need is comprehensive ethics legislation. Everyone in government, Congress (including staff), the Executive Branch, SCOTUS, the military.

Investments would be in blind trust, apply the insider trading rules to all government employees and have a 2 year cooling down period after leaving government employment where you can't lobby on behalf of anyone to the area in which you worked. It's those post-government jobs that are so lucrative and which warp the system because the people in government spent their last 3-4 years in government looking for that next job.

You want to make government smaller, eliminate those incestuous relationships between the regulators and the regulated.

One of your more lucid posts and I agree with much of it.

Don't hold your breath. Expect this to follow the form: "But did you read such-and-such?!"

Edit: Good Lord. Very next post.
I'm here to please! Seriously, it's spilt milk and doesn't matter anymore. Of course, many former Trump aides have testified before the grand jury in these recent investigations, unlike the Russian collusion investigation

Didn't the main investigator say he wouldn't find anyone who would press charges, which make sense given the stronghold of the Dems in DC..

I see you don't believe it, but frankly, yes I think he didn't push it because he had beaten her and had the attitude let it be. We will never know, but I think that scenario is very likely. Not uncommon at all among alpha males.

Let it be???🤣🤣 Then why did he spend taxpayer dollars investigating the popular vote count? How could you possibly believe Trump would "let it be" as to anything that is a slight against him????? Especially when his documented behavior has been anything but "let it be".

I have no doubt that you do. But realistically the logistics of imprisoning a President would be crazy, he would still be entitled to his staff, office and SS protection.

They might ask the NCAA to vacate his win; then Trump wouldn't have been president; then they could do all those nasty things. The real point is that when you start nailing the guys at the top of the totem pole then the word is out that all politicians can be had ... that should be making some other people uncomfortable. If this kind of thing could spread like the plague to all politicians, getting Trump would be worthwhile. The only thing they've got going is Trump is an outsider, so the DC klan probably believe it can't happen to them.

I agree that you could not send a former or current President to a standard prison, but you can see one being sent to one of the military bases where they have low security detention. Wouldn't be disruptive to have the support infrastructure there.

OR

Supermax. He would be totally safe there.

Finally, if Biden breaks criminal law, as a loyal Dem I would totally support locking him up as well. But you guys can't seem to ever prove anything, much less convict someone.

How about this for a thought. Let's say they locked up Trump and then couldn't deflect on Biden. What would that say about the electorate and the election process? The process that presents bad choices to the electorate and then the people who elected them? At that point you've basically shown the whole underpinnings to be corrupt, and where does that leave the country? The election system itself is being questioned ... actually has been for decades. When people start questioning the guiding processes, the immediate outcome can't be good. Using the courts for political prosecution when Clinton, Biden, and several others have been caught with security violations has a particularly bad smell. This isn't just about getting Trump; the outcome becomes why others were exempt from prosecution.

I seriously doubt that Hillary Clinton sat down at her computer and personally deleted files. I don't think she has the brains to do it.

Now if you can find the guy she paid to do that, then you've got her. She's stupid enough to have written him a check. Don't ever expect me to defend her unless it's some nutcase crap such as she is an alien. Well, maybe.

You saying hiliary was too stupid to delete files on her own, but was bright enough to be SOS and potentially president? That should scare you and everybody else straight.

Great idea. Why not make the cooling down period two years minimum with six months addition for every year of government service? That means you declare early which side you are on or you are essentially out of the game. No high ranking officers playing both sides before retirement, and politicians lose their store of stock the longer they serve. As the political clout builds the waiting period extends until they are has beens and of no real practical use.

Never said she was bright enough to be SOS or President.

But Trump proves you don't have to be smart. Or else he wouldn't keep digging a bigger hole.

Ex-Virginia gov, who saw Conviction by Jack Smith Thrown Out, says he'd 'rather win than get it right'

Former Virginia Republican Gov. Robert McDonnell – once prosecuted by now-Special Counsel Jack Smith for violating federal bribery law only to see his conviction unanimously overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court – said the ex-war crimes prosecutor would rather win a case than have the facts correct.

In 2016, federal prosecutors announced they would not pursue a second case against McDonnell after the Chief Justice John Roberts-led unanimous ruling vacating the conviction. McDonnell had been accused of accepting luxury gifts from a businessman in exchange for promoting a supplement he was hawking.

In vacating McDonnell's conviction, the Supreme Court ruled that setting up a meeting or organizing an event – without doing more – isn't considered an "official act," as charged by the Justice Department, where at the time the Public Integrity Section was run by Smith.

Not sure he'd be the guy you want criticizing the prosecutor to try to defend your own actions.

At the time, McDonnell was a rising star in the GOP arena and a possible presidential candidate going forward. Smith was probably tasked with taking him out, but you would have thought he could have convinced at least one person on the SC to go along with his case.

Almost an 8 year ago event, I must have missed the point but the indictments are one vs 4+. They are not even close. The Democrats are not going to let this go and will continue to go after Trump at all costs. I don't think America can survive if Trump were to be elected.

Oh we know y’all won’t let it go. What we can’t survive is 4 more years of these idiots in charge now

"The documents were planted"
"I universally declassified all the documents"
"I believe if I just think they're declassified, theay are, the best I understand it"
"I had executive privilege"

We haven't heard a word from him since the allegedly, damning evidence of Trump, himself, directing the destruction of video recordings
