Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

currently I am on a Radler and wheat beer kick to beat the summer heat and maintain flavor. Hoegaarden goes too much into the unfiltered side of things in this heat.

Most wheat beers, the good ones at least, are unfiltered.

Radlers aren't bad though.

Today is expected to be our 15th consecutive day of 110+ degrees in Phoenix. The all-time record is 18 consecutive days (set in 1974). That record is projected to fall. They're forecasting 118 degrees this Saturday and Sunday. I have no problem with unfiltered wheat beers, but I prefer a good IPA. Hoegaarden is delicious, but it's not on my list.

Our night-time low temperatures are now around 93-94 degrees, BTW.

Notice that record was set WAY back in 1974.

I'm not certain that I see the point of filtering beer unless you're just averse to beer that doesn't taste like water.

Don't knock it until you try it. Kristalweizen is still good and heavy, but isn't as good as Hefe in my opinion.

Do yourself a favor and get a German one. I haven't seen any American Kristals that pass muster.

You should hold out until they're willing to pay you to take it off their hands. I heard a story last week that net of the discounts they're having to offer, Bud Lite was selling for less per bottle than bottled water. How appropriate!

As is the case with many of the city's locally made beers, Austin has what I think is the best KWZ for summer time.

Austin Beerworks' Heisenberg.

Local or regional? I don't get down to Austin very much... never actually. But I am in Galveston every so often.

3. Neither...
4. Find Hoegaarden and make your life complete

I'll have to try those. I've never liked beer, but while working in Germany some of the guys got me started on wheat beer. Still not a favorite drink, but pretty good - don't remember the brands. This would have been mostly in Erlangen (Siemens and KWU home) just north of Nuremberg. One thing we don't have that we should is spargel season.

They self distro so I'd wager the former.

Shame. It's a really great city, to both live and visit. I might go back there in a few years after we get another one or two bars open.
