Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Show me where I mentioned Dellione as mid major fodder? Actually I was questioning not playing him last season. Good try tho.
Youre smart enough to know the mid major fodder comment is about the portal additions, or at least I hope you are.

When I said that Barnes now reloads his roster rather than rebuilds it, I didn’t mean ONLY portal additions. You replied to my comment specifically. Good try tho. I hope that youre smart enough to understand.

When you bring up criticism of Dilione not playing last year, is that moving the goal posts or that straw man thing? Or both?

Correct, but if the whole roster isnt strong is it really reloading? The Grant teams were a much stronger roster, Keon/Jaden if Fulky was healthy was a much stronger roster.

Nope, my point in bringing up FD is if he is as good as the poster suggested, after ZZ went down he shouldve played. That team needed what he supposedly can do, and his skill set if he is able to do those things probably wouldve helped the cold streaks that team liked to go on.

When I said that Barnes reloads instead of rebuilds I WASN’T limiting what he does to only a portion of his roster management.
Maybe you werent, but you were taking my mid major fodder comment out of text, I believe you do know I was referring to the portal additions and thus your comment in here was out of context.

The filling up the roster with mid-major fodder comment by Mr Checkers had a qualifier specifically excluding Dilione? I must have missed it.
Jeez man, I don't know what's more sad - not understanding that the comments you're citing were in reference to the actual mid-major additions or that you came to this thread to troll someone over weeks-old quarrel from a different thread.

You were ripping Barnes (shocking) and after I commented that Barnes now reloads you said that “the roster is pretty bad for this upcoming season”.

Dilione joined the team mid-season. It was his decision to take a redshirt.

You didn’t include the context. You didn’t say mid-major fodder “in the portal”. My comment that you were replying to wasn’t qualified as reloading (but only the portal additions part of the reload). Recruits that aren’t worthy of P6 can just as easily be referred to as mid-major fodder.

Correct, you said that Barnes reloaded, my mid major roster fodder comment was an answer to that. Albeit inconsistent we lost several experienced Power 5 players and replaced them with mid major players with little to no P5 experience. Those players are in spots to play major minutes for this roster. Thus my opinion that it is more of a rebuild rather than a re load. When I think of re loading, I think of your portal additions being experienced power 5 players, and or having highly ranked recruits who have been on campus ready to step in. Is there some talent on this team sure, but there are too many mid major players in spots to take important minutes for me to call it good. Especially when you add in our history with mid major players who have come in under Barnes. I just dont see a complete team.

I assumed that was self explanatory, my fault.

Did you miss the part that next year’s roster is bad? It’s right after the outrageous one about mid-major fodder. Don’t you see the connection? The roster is supposed to suck - but Freddie is a first rounder.

Are you still talking about things you misunderstood in a different thread? Go argue about it over there. I would actually like to read one of your classic fluff pieces here in this thread (no joke).

That’s rich. So now you’re a big fan of Olivier. And since BJ transferred down a level, is he now mid-major fodder?

Who is the worst fodder? Gainey, Knecht, or Ledlum?

Ironic. You’re triggered that I’m “trolling” and referencing a comment in a different thread yet say “classic fluff pieces”.

Yeah, I am legitimately requesting your take on FREDDIE DILIONE HERE IN THIS THREAD. When you can resist the urge to call out others over old arguments that have nothing to do with the topic at hand, then you can preach about being triggered.

Do I want Oliver back no, but im not calling it a reload unless we added guys like Dickinson, Love etc.....

At this point, I would consider BJ as fodder as he hasnt proven anything at the P5 level, although I still believe that was because he was never given a chance.

Well, as evidenced by the link to his NBA draft projection my take is that Dilione isn’t fodder or needs to transfer to a mid-major. And Barnes deserves some fluff for adding him.

Why the CAPS? You sound triggered.

IMO, he handled the UCLA courtship poorly in the media. Should have kept quit about it publicly with a “ I’m the coach at UT and that’s the only program I’m interested in discussing” type of comment. After it was over a simple “I’m happy to continue as the coach at Tennessee”. Say much more publicly and there’s no telling how it might get interpreted and possibly twisted. JMO
Good take-it might have been just a rare example of Barnes mishandling an image situation. I think it left questions/bad taste for a lot of folks who are reasonable and really like Barnes.

I like Barnes and what he has brought to Tennessee but it seems he is underachieving with the talent he has. And yes I understand that is not breaking news

Only 8 teams in all of NCAA BB advanced further. 34 players were drafted ahead of Phillips.

Didn’t TN knock off the #1 team in the country? And 2 other top 10 teams? And #12 and #13?

This is not talent. It's potential talent. If he becomes All NBA in 4 years, it means almost nohing to us last year.

It just seems that his team underperformed in the tournament and seems to be the case every year to me

The NCAAT is a flawed measure of how good teams are. Many of the best teams in history came up short. It’s a different day now that the 4 or 5 blue bloods don’t get an easy path to the FF. I’m glad to have a program that is capable of breaking through in any random season.

The NCAAT is full of Cinderella (made for TV ratings) stories EVERY year. Each of those will displace a favorite (actually several).

I’ve said it many times. The one-and-done format is very flawed. Also injuries, inconsistent and unpredictable officiating, and bad matchups (and venues) in the biased seedings by a room full of administrators make for an easily rigged system. TN has very few from the establishment that will give them a fair shot let alone an advantage.

He’s an excellent coach. Only 2 or 3 active coaches have more D-1 wins.

Paramount Global (CBS), Time Warner-Discovery (TBS/TNT/TRU), and the NCAA have conditioned the sheep to believe that nothing else matters or compares to the NCAA Tournament. Any good team can put together 4 straight wins and land in the Final Four. Winning conferences is a grind and the NCAA doesn’t want the conferences to matter.

I never said I didn't like him actually I thought I said that I did. But it seems you may like him entirely too much.
