Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Day parties are fun. Especially ones with former popular local campus frat guys. They know all the beautiful women. Wish I could've taken some pics of the mostly exposed melons and apple bottoms without looking pervy.

I was telling my wife I happened to stumble across a thing online the other night that said an old "friend" had died in 2014 and several boxes of "his" works had been donated to the University of Oregon. The guy used people and then at the appropriate time did his best to destroy them. He was actually pretty adept at it. I was wondering just how much of "his works" several of us made possible. I like the the guy's comment directed to Gary.

Well... Carnival got us again. @SumSoonerChick is getting great deals on upcoming cruises. And we booked a 12 day southern Caribbean cruise for only $200. With $200 onboard credit. So, basically a free 12 day cruise.

It'll be a nice 2024 Christmas gift since we'll be at sea the 25th.
How the Heck does one get a free cruise?
you have to stay on the poop deck?

oh man that sounds horrible for you hope you can find a way to get thru it!

It is on Deck 1... but okay, not totally free with the port fees, taxes and prepay gratuities. But the base level is $100 per person but they throw in $200 in onboard credit.

So, basically free. Of course, that's not covering what we'll do in: Grand Cayman, Bonaire, Curaçao, Jamaica or with 13 hours in Aruba.

It really is one of those trips of a lifetime.

For those of you familiar with Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander series, there's an interesting line in Treason's Harbor, and I'm wondering if it's intentional or just one of those things.

"At this point Mowett was called away, much against his will, and while Rowan and Martin ..."

The book was certainly written after "Laugh In", makes you wonder if it was just coincidence or if it was done that way as a bit of humor. Something like how they are travelling on a ship named the Dromedary to a desert they will cross on camels.

And for hog, I do agree that the books contain a depth of sailing lore or knowledge that you don't get in most other sailing books. There's a feel for how the sails load the ship and how the mast rake and stays can work to improve the balance, stability, and loading on masts and spars. You can almost feel how the sail distribution (especially tops) shove the bow down and mast rake can ease the moment of forward rotation. O'Brian's style does take a bit of adjustment; you almost feel like 6 or 7 books in that you should start over because the writing is much more familiar by that point.

Loved me some Laugh In.

I just had to bi**h out my California momma. Just found out my best friend in the world has 10% heart function and nobody thought to inform me. Please do what you believe. Pray for Dan or send good thoughts into the universe. He is my pseudo father, my best friend, my brother. Don't know how I'd respond if I lost him

Nothing they can do? Cardiomyopathy or something else? Apparently cardiomyopathy is difficult to do anything for, but a lot of other heart problems are treatable.

“He kicked me in my balls as soon as I opened the door,” Mr DeYoung said, adding that Mr Chapman ran at him and slammed him into a chair.
For his part, Mr Chapman alleges that Mr DeYoung had swung at him and said: “I’ll kick your ass.” Mr DeYoung denies this happened.

Continuing, Mr Chapman says he removed his glasses, took Mr DeYoung by the legs and knocked him down: “When you see me taking my glasses off, I’m ready to rock.”
