2023 NBA Draft & Offseason aka Dame Time Is a Storm in Which We Are All Lost

Pau Gasol got absolutely robbed of the top 75, should have been 2010 Finals MVP and might be the most underrated player since the turn of the century

He should be top 75 but there is a reason CP3 didn't get snubbed.

Suddenly we have a log jam in the front court, but I imagine Hendricks gets to develop more slowly. Or this is just trade capital. Now we have two guys who can rim run and two who can stretch. Now we have a tradeable contract to get a big fish. Our biggest contract was $17m (Sexton) and now we got a $25m contract to trade. I just hope we don't use them on Middleton.

Atlanta got a mandate from ownership to make sure they get out of the apron. At the very least, you can rebuild his value and get something out of him if need be

This makes my hare-brained scheme to get Scoot all the more plausible...

We can send 5 1sts to Blazers with Collins. They can flip Collins and the picks (and depending on the deals out there, Simons) and get 1 awesome guy or 2 good guys back. We take back Scoot and Nurkic (which is worth at least a 1st pick to them to take him off their hands). Dumping Nurkic would allow them to re-sign Grant and not break the bank. This would give them everything they need to give Dame a real shot at something.

Chris Paul>>>>Iverson

I think he's joking because nobody should count him as a Grizzly anyway, but maybe he's not.

But yeah....Iverson had 1 awesome year and a couple solid years, and the rest of his career was pretty much a nightmare. He made it out of the 1st round 3x.

Blazers flip the picks and Collins + Simons to Toronto for Siakam, Anunoby, and Poetl S&T. Who says no? I don't think anybody does.

Collins was not a good fit in Atlanta.

He's just not that good. He's a solid player but the salary is too much (but Jazz gotta burn some $, so they don't care). If the D were better, he'd be worth the contract. He's best as a rim runner, which the Hawks didn't need him for with Okongwu and Capela. He's been an OK stretch 4, but the 3's weren't falling last year. Jazz can do all kinds of stuff with their frontline now....or just trade him.

I guess we're not going after Grant Williams anymore? If we're done making trades, the Jazz only have to spend $8m more to get to the min salary level, but if we can pick up FVV on $80m/3, that would be great.

I saw Sexton to Bucks was rumored in talks, but IDK what the hell we get out of that.

He’s a poster child for why NBA contracts have broken things. For $15M he’s a nice asset to have. At $25M, it’s a killer and you’re not going anywhere. I’m hoping the new apron will reestablish a middle class in the NBA.

Cam Johnson- Solid player. Nice 3&D wing that can create his own offense a little bit. Good athlete. Good size. He’s probably worth $15M-$20M/year. Something like that.

But he’s gonna get a max deal. And by year 3/year 4 you’re gonna be paying him over $30M for 15/6/3, very good shooting, very solid defense and it’s not gonna get you closer to a title depending on the team.

I don't think he'll get maxed. Maybe if he were 4 years younger, but he's pretty much peaked. You might be right though. I think it will be $20m /yr

Such a cool moment we will never have ever again

It can happen and nobody can explain why ESPN and the NBA can't get it right. They have no idea what they're doing with both the lottery broadcast and the draft.

Lottery:
It's a half hour program and we go through all the picks in about 1 minute. When a team falls or rises, we don't even have time to think about the implications. Why not give each selection 30 seconds to breathe? Or maybe do the first 5 picks, show some analysis, then go by 3's the rest of the way? There is no suspense built. When a team jumps from 9 to the top 3, at least half the fans can't process that in real-time. This can't be the best way.

Draft:
FFS, Woj knows what the trade is and what the picks are before they're selected. Why does it take the broadcast 10-15 minutes after the fact to announce a trade? Because they might get it wrong? They're getting it wrong by not trying to get it right....every time. Guys are wearing the wrong hats. And then there is almost no analysis. We get the kid on the couch with his parents and have the same ******* conversation every time. Why not ask the kid how he likes his fit in the city and on the team? Who he's excited to play with? Nah, be the 15th guy today to tell us what you're feeling, kid whose at a loss for words explaining the whirlwind of emotions, and parents who have never been on TV. It's so, so bad....and the fix is so easy.

Cam Whitmore falling was such a big draft day story and all of us are wondering what's happening and the broadcast is not addressing it. I didn't know until the next day that he had questionable medicals.

Why didn’t the Warriors go after Paul instead of Porzingis in the Pool trade? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to add Porzingis, add some size and a stretch big? Doesn’t he fit what they want to do?
