Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I have to go with GV on the tomato vs watermelon fight. I can eat fresh summer tomatoes every day, but watermelon is a couple time event, and then I'm over them.

And it depends highly on whether tomatoes are what tomatoes should be or what they've been bred to be. Tomatoes should be acidic not sweet. You should know when you bite into one that you actually bit into something with a tang. Not quite like biting into a lemon, but tomatoes aren't supposed to be sweet. It's disgusting seeing "sweet" describing tomatoes in stores. As a kid, I remember tangy tomatoes from a garden drove into the "eat til you puke" mode.

We are exceptionally good at arguing in the political forum. But where we really excel, is arguing about food and drink. In that spirit, I think it is time for another food fight. The best foods for summer.

Hands down, the best summer food is watermelon. It is has no equal in sweet, crunch, and refreshment. And anybody who says different loves the Crimson Tide.

I'm 100% into the watermelon sprinkled with tajin camp.

Fresh blackberries picked yourself and having to fight the bees, bears and everyone else for them.
I'm partial to berries. A favorite summer refresher is frozen blueberries. They have a perfect combination of sweet, tart and texture. Frozen strawberries a close second.

We are doomed as a species. There are an almost infinite number of summer foods better than berries.

I like to get one of those frozen packages of mixed fruits and eat a bowl while at least partially frozen. The downside is that the fruit that goes into the package never really has as much flavor as it should. I get the feeling that has to do with commercialism in farming more than anything else because most fruit in stores is pretty bland these days. For instance even in Hawaii a local pineapple lacks the flavor of the Arashiyama (Okinawa) pineapples where the pineapples are grown by families and individuals ... not named something like "Dole".

Yeah, I hear you. We have a lot of good local farms here in FL that still produce good stuff. I buy up the fresh berries when they're BOGO and freeze them.

Gonna do the father's day thing this weekend and grill burgers and dogs. My counterpart on the other side of the kids will be there and we get along well and should have a great time.
Nice.
Moms bringing some chicken pot pie over Sunday. I will get many gifts from my kids. My wife will make the day special. But mommas chicken pot pie will be the highlight of my day! It’s phenomenal.
