Sustaining our country and wildlife.I did something I've never really done before, I recycled. We have a horrible trash problem, as in too much. We have a little recycling center just a couple of miles up the road, so two weeks ago we started to cut down on trash. Tiffany gets a ton of medical stuff in cardboard, and we probably empty 10+ plastic bottles a day. That's not counting milk jugs, laundry detergent, etc, plus cardboard from cereal boxes, cakes, etc. In two weeks time I filled up two trash bags with just plastic, and had a huge box of broken down cardboard. For the first time in probably forever, all of our trash fit in the can without leaving the lid open. I also started taking leftover vegetables, and pouring them into the woods. Idk if it's deer, rabbit, or what, but it's getting eaten within a day. I'd say deer, we have a ton. Something really loves the baked potato scraps with the real butter, they get gone fast.

Probably nasty ass good for nothing possums.I did something I've never really done before, I recycled. We have a horrible trash problem, as in too much. What about the scraps with sour cream? @volfanbill... I also started taking leftover vegetables, and pouring them into the woods. Yeah possums and raccoons will split and double if you give them scraps of food sorta like getting gremlins wet. What about the scraps with sour cream? @volfanbill
Seriously, good for you. Keep an eye out though for an increase in less warm and fuzzy critters, like possums and raccoons. You probably don't want to contribute to a population explosion for them!
Plus, not only do the original local ones start explosively reproducing, but the word goes out, and all their second and third cousins and hairdressers' brothers-in-law and kids back on their 3rd grade kickball team come join in the fun.Yeah possums and raccoons will split and double if you give them scraps of food sorta like getting gremlins wet.![]()
I don't think they have a chance with all the rabbits we have. Bugs and his cousins are everywhere herePlus, not only do the original local ones start explosively reproducing, but the word goes out, and all their second and third cousins and hairdressers' brothers-in-law and kids back on their 3rd grade kickball team come join in the fun.
It'd be alright if there are some apex predators, like wolves, to keep things in balance. Absent that (or a bunch of kids with bb guns), an explosion of possums can reduce the available food for other critters, so then you've got that. Maybe it's desirable in his area, I dunno, but either encouraging or removing a species in the ecosystem can create some surprising results. We humans don't have a great track record of foreseeing what will happen when we wade into the natural order. *cough* kudzu *cough*Y’all quit dissing possums.
Whoever thunk kudzu would be a good idea otter be beat centsless with a dead possum. It'd be alright if there are some apex predators, like wolves, to keep things in balance.
