This is a dead horse thread but just my opinion on uni change is simple. This isn't Major League Baseball where you have true uniform tradition with the likes of the Yankees and the red Sox and the Cubs, in the words of Dan Hawkins It's division one football, and the teams that actually have that uniform tradition card to fall back on you can probably count on one hand and we aren't one of them. I really don't see anything wrong with updating the uniforms as long as the helmet is kept in tact because that seems the consistant in CF is programs with deep tradition do update the uniforms but dont mess with the helmet. The thing i have against black is it just seems like it would be kinda dreary on a crisp fall afternoon game at Neyland. If theres a desinger out there that could make the black work then im all for it.

tennessee's uniforms are pretty traditional.

So the white uni's with the orange shoulders that we wore against UNLV in EA and BS first year are illegal to wear now right?

If not, I'd love to see those on the road.

If we were to add a third color we should consider gray or silver. I have seen some really cool stuff with that combo, but I am a traditionalist and think that we have colors now that are recognized anytime they are seen. Tennessee Orange and White is an icon in the college sports world.

We do not need to look like Okie St. or Oregon State. Their uniforms look like good high school uniforms. Black is over done.

I agree with the gray/silver as a highlight color. Orange and dark grey look pretty cool together.

lets just get orange and white checker board jerseys pants and belts and have a player lay down in the endzone camoflagued (sp?) so when another team gets near we have an extra player there to stop them. we would never lose at home. lol :)

i agree with mullet on this actually. i can't stand alabama, but the tide do probably have some of the most traditional unis in college football. tennessee's are traditional too. but we've still experimented with some stuff over the years that makes ours a little less traditional than some other schools(i.e.....the away jersey with the orange shoulders worn in the 70s, the orange pants in the majors era (cant remember if we had them before then or not), the big fat stripe down the side of the pants in '02, the all orange look, etc.......)

Exactly i mean theres alot of tradition with the UT jerseys and helmet but going back to using MLB as a reference what do you think of when you see the Yankees, the Dodgers and the Red Sox unis? One unwavering uniform design thats never changed. Im not saying its a bad thing, i acually prefer having a few mild changes every generation, but unlike a handful of schools who have a unwritten rule of never changing their uniform.

In an interview with ESPN's Gene Wojciechowski, Kiffin responded to the question, "Have you thought about changing the uniforms at all?" by answering, "No, not yet." So who knows, there could be changes in the near future, but no confirmation on anything.

Actually, the Red Sox have changed the design of their unis this year. The away unis will be reminiscent of the 1980's, when they had Boston on the chest in dark blue.

Good point, i also forgot they had different unis back in the 70's as well. Not drastically different but different .

i will agree with this. i dont like the oregon state jerseys. black jerseys have become a cliche. i really just wish we could wear the old jerseys that showed the lower abs and lower back. those were cool.

I forgot about that as well. Their home unis have remained largely unchanged for decades though.
