‘The Right Thing To Do’: DeSantis Defends Six-Week Abortion Ban After Trump Calling It ‘Too Harsh’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis defended the newly-signed heartbeat bill Monday after former President Donald Trump called it “too harsh” last week.

The governor, who is widely expected to make a presidential announcement as early as Wednesday, signed the Heartbeat Protection Act on April 13, making it illegal to get an abortion after six weeks gestation. DeSantis insisted that the abortion ban wasn’t harsh, and added that it was “humane” at a National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) convention in Orlando, Florida, Monday.

“When we are acting to protect an unborn child that has a detectable heartbeat, that is humane, that is not harsh – that is the right thing to do,” said DeSantis. (RELATED: ‘Too Harsh’: Trump Calls Out DeSantis Over Six-Week Abortion Ban)

If DeSantis wants to lose then he'll keep this stance. 12 weeks has been a standard.

DeSantis has turned Florida into a fascist state. GOP political hacks going around to schools and arbitrarily pulling large numbers of books
from their libraries. Totally outrageous.

Adding to an already rich pool of candidates. There is an embarrassment of riches on the Republican side.

Furious Trump Glares into the Camera and Shakes his Fists as Judge sets Stormy Daniels trial for March 25, 2024 - in the Middle of the GOP Primaries and Months Before the Presidential Election

  • Trump appeared by video conference in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday
Donald Trump threw his hands in the air in fury during a virtual appearance in a Manhattan court on Tuesday as a judge scheduled the Stormy Daniels 'hush money' criminal trial for March 25, 2024.

It means the former president will be in a Manhattan courtroom for weeks in the middle of the Republican primaries and just months before the presidential election.

The court day lies just weeks after the 'Super Tuesday' primaries set for March 5, and days after Florida's March 19 contest that will pit Trump against Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Trump, 76, scowled into the camera during a Zoom appearance as Judge Juan Merchan told him to cancel all commitments during the trial and put a protective order in place banning him from sharing evidence in public.

If it does end up being DeSantis vs. Biden, there won’t be debates. The DNC will not allow DeSantis to play the Kennedy to Biden’s Nixon.

I’ll have to see it to believe that anyone but Trump gets the R nomination. Too many candidates in the race once again. It’ll be 2016 all over again I’m afraid.

A public school has hundreds of thousands of books? Sounds like education needs a haircut.

Biden won’t be the nominee. Sure, he’ll sweep up the primaries but right before the convention he’ll step aside for pick a reason and the candidate will be selected by the delegates which means the party powers.
I don’t think so. He will be the nominee. God forbid if he wins* again then after a short time I think he resigns

Beat me to it. No way Biden is their nominee in the end. It’ll be someone else vs Trump imo. As long as the Dems aren’t dumb enough to go with Harris, the Dem will have a 99.9% chance of winning.

Regardless who the dem is if Rs don’t get on the mail out voting, ballot harvesting and drop boxes train dems have a 100% chance of winning
