Pearl Offer From Memphis

If Pearl leaves people that are hoping he is gone will be regretting it 3 NIT's later in 2012. Yes there are better coaches out there than Pearl, but can UT lure them...probably not.

I'm sure Pearl will be tempted--but if I'm him I can't leave the SEC for the crappy conference usa. SEC basketball isn't very strong either--been crap lately, to be honest--but at least there are good rivalries with kentucky and florida, and maybe even bama. Conf. usa has zilch. The Memphis upside is that it's only a basketball school, for the most part--and the crap conference means he'll be in the tournament EVERY year. That won't be the case in the SEC. Memphis in its crap conference is the equivalent of Florida State after it joined the crap ACC in football--totally dominating for a decade or more, always in the title picture, getting all the recruits--which always pissed me off and why Bowden has always been overrated as a coach. Calipari probably will do well at uk, maybe even very well--but he'll face tougher competition now. It will be interesting to see what Pearl does.

It wouldn't bother me much if Pearl left. I'd want Nova's coach. They're good year in and year out.

Bruce bleeds orange, I just can't see him taking this offer. When he started out for the Vols the basketball program was no where near football in importance, now its almost as big as the football program. Not to mention he would be stepping down a conference to C USA. And besides, who would want to go through all the hassle of selling his orange suit and buying a blue one

how so? There are plenty of good coaches out there. Bruce has done a lot at TN there is no denying that, but if he left I know of some coaches who I think would do equally as good if not better

Don't forget Phil Fulmer is the only person that can recruit to UT...

I am sorry but comparing Fulmer and Pearl is assinine. Fulmer took over a succesful program took it to the top and then slowly dragged it into oblivion.

Pearl took over a program in oblivion and has elevated it to a succesful program.

I know he isn't the best coach in the world, but I don't think TN is as easy of a sell to a coach as you think. We aren't selling them on our football program.

Nothing that you have said supports your assertion that people who are critical of Pearl "are morons and probably don't know one thing about basketball."

Those who have criticized him have made numerous post about X’s and O’s, schemes, in-game coaching adjustments, lack of play inside the paint on undersized teams, coming out flat in big games, undisciplined play and players, etc. Based upon your post, their knowledge about the game of basketball seems much more than yours.

Yep, that's why I have played basketball my whole life on actual teams. So you are saying they came out flat against Memphis last year? Florida both times this year? At south Carolina? Marquette? You obviously look at the negatives more than the positives. This is 18 to 21 year old kids. Sometimes they have a mind of their own. Plus wayne had a broken thumb against ok state. Do you know how hard it is to play down low with a broken finger? It can get physical. If you want him gone then ok. You might just get your wish. I bet you weren't complaining about pearl his first 3 years here. This was by far his youngest team and they have tons of potential.

It's a HUGE mistake for us to let Pearl slip away.
they want to pay him $3 million a year.

i think it might be a mistake for us to match that when we could go spend the same money on a better coach.

and i don't hate pearl, but to think there aren't better coaches is, well, naive.
