Dingbat says there is no deal to be had and no negotiation on the debt ceiling. That's an easy call if I'm McCarthy, shut the government down and quit sending grandma her SS check if the democrats just think they have an open checkbook. This would be fun to watch.

Can't do that although it needs to be done. There are precious few qualifying obstacles to be met to run for office, and intellect and reasoning aren't included. Biden meets the age, citizenship, and residency requirements; so he's in if he chooses and can get on the ballot. Funny that we don't officially vet even those minimal requirements - and haven't even legally considered how "natural born citizen" as it relates to presidential qualification would be different from just plain "citizen". Obviously from the last election cycle we don't require candidates to be either mentally cognizant or living. Apparently a legally aged CCP member who would be a direct Chinese spy could qualify for office as long as he/she was born in the US by even an illegally present mother. Not much of a way to run a railroad.

Government shut down isn't the real concern here. It's us actually defaulting on money owed to creditors. Nobody really knows what the whip lash effect could be on that. Ugly is the only safe assumption.

Actually there is no reason to default unless they want to. Not extending the debt limit doesn't mean they can't keep paying the debt, they can cut back elsewhere like worthless agencies like the EPA, CDC, DOE and on and on.
