Just to highlight Payton Gottshall's performance over the last three days, she got the win in two games and a save in the third. If my math is correct, she pitched 91/3 innings and only gave up two runs to the best offensive team in the league. We may have gone 0-3 without her. Three weeks ago Payton was struggling. The last three days have been special for her.

You act like they're intentionally tanking on an SEC title. Dude. Even if UGA sweeps LSU, which is unlikely, UT just has to win 3 of the last 6 against two teams that have questionable pitching behind one ace, and even the two "aces" of those staffs have nearly 3.00 ERAs in SEC games.

Second, the SEC Champion is going to be a top-8 seed and host. The RPI can say whatever it wants, LSU isn't getting a top-8 seed over a team that swept them and will finish six games better in both conference and overall record. Just one example.

Finally, risking injury or diminished postseason capacity to your ace pitcher to ensure an SEC title is fine if you're ok getting run in a regional or super and falling short of a WCWS again. And SEC title is great and is likely at this point, but a trip to the WCWS is higher on the priority list. If managing Ashley's workload right now gets them there, then it's worth it.

Pickens has hit a freshman wall. I am confident she will break through it. Gottshall is a season veteran who has been through the wars even if it was at lower level. She has comeback from a rough stretch like a house on fire. Experience is a valuable thing.

Me too. Florida has bats, any other year we would be lucky to pull out one game.

This team is showing that it can win different types of games, and that will be very important down the road.

When your bats are silent, you need your pitchers to step up. And when the pitchers are getting hit, you need your bats to step up.

This team is not solely reliant on pitching or hitting. It has both, and it shows the ability to win both ways. That is exciting to me.

Yep, the Freshman wall has even got bigger with high profile players. A lot on their plate already and add the NIL appearances compound to that. There was a reason in yester years freshmen were off limits to after game interviews, trying to protect and manage. Alas, it is a new world. Hopefully she can exhale and finish strong.

I was thinking of Payton. During the epic 2,500-pitch at-bat of Charla Echols, I thought several times, "If Payton threw an offspeed here, we could all go home."

I sure hope she does. I am confident that your confident! Sure glad I didn't have to leave after 4th inning last night, enjoyed the game even though I had unexpected company show up put the game on the TV in bedroom and ran back and forth all night. They probably thought I sure had to pee a lot, ha ha.

Good point on Rogers which makes getting Pickens back on track even more important.

Georgia has an open midweek date Tuesday, May 2nd, as does MSST. Any chance, SEC sets up that game to be played? It shows “cancelled” at the UGA schedule website.

I don't think they will if they do and if they win four games meaning that one and three at LSU then we would share the title if we win three games. Of course we need to win four games and it doesn't matter what they do.

I think it has a lot more to do with a tiny strike zone and not getting a corner that she’s used to getting now in back to back starts then it does signing a few autographs. She’s made two appearances during the season, an hour long autograph session at a T-shirt shop and an autograph session before a kids camp. She’s posted some tweets that were probably written for her by someone else. That hasn’t done anything to impact her playing ability.
