Gun control debate (merged)

Name something that isnt. Its an honest attempt at action, more than Dimwits can say they did.
its an action. that doesn't mean its honest. and it doesn't mean its attempting to address the issues.

its doing something for the sake of doing something. specifically chosen so that nothing is accomplished so they can justify further grabs later on. "We were trying to be rational and reasonable with the red flag laws, but that wasn't enough, now we have no choice but to ban all guns"

glad I don't live in TN for this. LG, Luther, and Woodsman going to be red flagging this entire forum.

and guess what, you are guilty, and have no chance to defend yourself.

"Republicans are actually doing something." Not very astute. The guv and the GOP could have done this years ago---should have done it years ago, and it's only one measure. And why are they doing it? Because there was a mass shooting in Tennessee and they've been catching hell for doing nothing for years while kids keep getting murdered in their schools, and students had to march to the statehouse to get these indifferent GOP clowns to start focusing on protecting the public from gun violence.

We still take our girls to the library. Not to check out books though.

They have all types of activities. Story times, arts and crafts, play structures. It’s more than just books.

I was just joking but grumpy mod took it serious. I went back to school a few years ago for a certification and used the library but mostly the online access.

Just to be clear:

You were upset with them for “doing nothing” and now you’re still upset even though they’ve done something?

This is why politicians should never give in the demands of the reactionaries

"That's the way we drew it up, b*tches!" -- Founding Fathers

survey seems a good bit sus....
i know when I want good representational data I only draw from 0.0003% of the population.
"The survey was conducted March 14-23, 2023, online and by telephone among a nationally representative sample of 1,271 U.S. adults "
For what its worth this would average out to a place like Wyoming having 2 participants, while Chicago would have 11 participants. I wonder why they found a pretty high rate of people involved in shootings with that sampling selection....

I also make sure I bribe them to make sure I get exactly the responses I want.
"Respondents in the phone samples received a $15 incentive via a check received by mail, and web respondents received a $5 electronic gift card incentive (some harder-to-reach groups received a $10 electronic gift card)."

When choosing my random participants I always make sure that they all fill out the forms 100% fully and correctly. Because its reasonable to expect all 1300 people to fill out the forms 100% correct.
"The online questionnaire included two questions designed to establish that respondents were paying attention. Cases that failed both attention check questions, those with over 30% item non-response, and cases with a length less than one quarter of the mean length by mode were flagged and reviewed. Cases were removed from the data if they failed two or more of these quality checks. Based on this criterion, no cases were removed. "

To further make sure I get the results I want, I weight the responses.
"The combined cell phone and panel samples were weighted to match the sample’s demographics to the national U.S. adult population using data from the Census Bureau’s 2021 Current Population Survey (CPS). "

To make sure my data is super legit I make sure the average of margin of error is smaller than any individual component of that average.

It’s the same tactic with grabbing the AR’s.

We took all the “assault weapons” and kids are still being slaughtered - guess we’re just going to have to take the handguns now.

We have to do something else.

If assault weapons had not been banned, do you think things would be better, worse, or pretty much the same?

Do you think there is a higher likelihood that an assault weapon would have been used in a school shooting had they not been banned?

Tennessee Republicans want to withhold state money from Memphis if they reinstate Pearson.

I'm sure they will do the same thing to Nashville....

If we banned all transgenders from purchasing firearms, would the likelihood of a mass shooting go up or down?

What is the legal sports car of the gun world?
depends entirely on what you want it to do. to put it back into cars do you just care about the initial acceleration, or the top end speed? Do you care about the raw stats (HP, torque), branding/history, the style, oldie-but goodies or nothing but the newest etc etc etc.

to answer your question its probably a bull-pup something in the relatively new military spec size of 6.8 ammo. I typically don't keep up with which specific rifle is THE thing at the moment, my tastes differ from most. Maybe its the new civilian version of the new military rifle.

Personally a M82A1 would be my sports car. probably up until I get a chance to give it a drive and pay for the gas. but some of the attachments (sights) on the new military rifle look sweet, but may be a bit underpowered for my sports car.

I think they would be used about 1/20th as much as rifles, which are used about 1/20th as much as handguns. And I think you have the same reasoning behind the reductions. Handguns are easier to use than any rifle. easier to conceal and carry as well. Cheaper, both in the upfront cost and the cost to shoot. automatics have a similar jump in complexity and price over rifles as rifles do over pistols.

so yes we would see them, but I don't think the deaths would necessarily go up as much as you think. Its not like the movies, most people aren't holding a fully auto weapon on target very long at all.

its comes down to the simplistic of economy, automatic weapons are EXPENSIVE. both to buy and to run. rifle ammo isn't far off $1 a round. I think it was a Chris Rock joke about putting bullets on layaway.
