President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

You do know there is a 3rd option, right? Increase domestic production and work on getting more from Canada and Mexico.

Why is ever problem in your mind solved with aggressive moves instead of common sense diplomacy and economics? I thought I was talking with capitalists in here?

You mean kinda like this:

How could we have destroyed OPEC?

I can't say I have an answer to that. However, if we used our own oil domestically, it might be a start. It's also hard to believe that we couldn't cut a deal with a country or two to the south of us that would ween them away from OPEC. Food for thought anyway.

Joe's still crushing America each day that passes by ...

Time to close down our plants in Mexico and absolutely seal the border. Let Mexico see what poverty is with the crumbs they get from China, Russia, India, and Brazil. China is like the only one of the group that has a couple of nickels to rub together.

I didn't see that post. But when you say stuff like this below, that appears to be you talking about literally going after them with sanctions or threats or some other aggressive measure. What you and I seem to be talking about is just common sense. That isn't "going after OPEC" or necessarily going to destroy them.

Yeah, they are, and they'll do it again. So which would insult you more: the Saudi's continuing to screw us with OPEC, or somebody here in the US finally finding his balls and going after OPEC? We should have destroyed OPEC long ago; we saw what they could do in the '70s.

I don't see that you could legislate an international cartel out of business. You could physically destroy the facilities, but then neither you nor anyone else can get the product they built a cartel around, so that's obviously no good. It would be pretty much impossible to destroy a county that sponsors a cartel or members without destroying the stuff you want, so that's not much good either. Diplomacy isn't going to dissuade a bully - which is what a cartel really is.

About the only thing available is to fiscally undermine the cartel, which to some extent a flood of Russian oil had been doing - we really aren't and weren't dumb enough to think sanctions work only one way. The real solution is to become independent of the cartel's product (as you stated); or if you can't, to ally with partners in a way to fiscally undermine the cartel - trade with non OPEC suppliers or try to convince an OPEC member they are better off with us than OPEC and work from there.

The other remaining problem is still the commodities market, and investors speculators willing to trade their country and stability for individual profit - basically cutting off their nose to spite their faces. What good is it to become wealthy while helping collapse the world around you? You can't take it with you. When you really get right down to nuts and bolts, OPEC works hand in hand with the global commodities market - OPEC sets quantities, and the market speculatively adjusts the price for them. The commodities market really works to more or less make non-OPEC suppliers auxiliary OPEC members - they just don't have to join. Energy is still the thing that makes everything work; the goal should be energy as cheap as possible.

Where the hell have you been for the last 2 years...lost in the Ukraine thread expressing your undying devotion to all things Russia? Biden and the lunatic left are NOT going to allow us to meaningfully increase domestic production. We're also going to have to eventually add back to the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, which will help drive oil prices even higher.

And just like that, you see what we resort to... threats and ultimatums, not diplomacy and cooperation.

Exclusive: US plans ultimatum in Mexico energy dispute, raising threat of tariffs

The Biden administration plans to send Mexico an "act now or else" message in coming weeks in an attempt to break a stalemate in an energy trade dispute as bipartisan calls grow for the U.S. to get tougher with its southern neighbor, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The move would represent a significant escalation in already-strained tensions between U.S. President Joe Biden and his Mexican counterpart, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

If the panel rules against Mexico and it fails to take corrective action, Washington and Ottawa could ultimately impose billions of dollars in retaliatory tariffs on Mexican goods.

So we are going to add punitive tariffs on a country that is one of our leading energy exporters. You guys are crazy...

Biden has few options because he is weak and unlikable. The bureaucracy is destroying our credibility worldwide.

I didn't think anyone could be weaker than Obama...

Then we got Biden.

I mean, at least Obama had eight years to **** up relations. Biden did it in less than two.
