Players in jerseys but without helmets who eventually worked on the side included: Wide receiver Bru McCoy, cornerbacks De’Shawn Rucker and Brandon Turnage, running back Jabari Small, tight end Charlie Browder and freshman defensive linemen Daevin Hobbs and Nathan Robinson. Most of these are due to offseason clean-ups or ongoing recoveries from injuries from last season.

Players in red non-contact jerseys were cornerback Warren Burrell, linebacker Kwauze Garland and freshman tight end Ethan Davis. Burrell and Garland missed most of last season with injuries. Davis had shoulder surgery in the fall as well, but those players were able to go through drills.

Freshman athlete Cameron Seldon worked with the running backs, though he is listed as a wide receiver on Tennessee’s updated roster.

Christian Charles worked with the safeties.

Oregon transfer wide receiver Dont’e Thornton worked out of the slot behind Squirrel White and looked really good – he’s long and moves smoothly. Kaleb Webb worked behind Ramel Keyton at one of the outside receiver positions.

The most notable lineup thing from the individual work for Tennessee’s offensive line was Gerald Mincey working at right tackle.

Also at left tackle were 2022 six-game starter Jeremiah Crawford, redshirt freshman Brian Grant and freshman Shamurad Umarov.

Junior college transfer Larry Johnson III was at right tackle and freshman Vysen Lang appeared to be at left guard.

Freshman running back Cameron Seldon looked the part. He honestly towered over the other running backs in the group and looks every bit of 215 pounds. He’s thick and showed good feet during individual dills. It was good to see fellow freshman tailback (and local product) DeSean Bishop out there as well. He and Seldon both were towards the back of the group, watching and learning all they could before doing reps. Both of those guys – along with veterans Jaylen Wright and Dylan Sampson – will get plenty of looks this spring.

Nico was as advertised throwing on air. He displays a quick release and good feet in the pocket. The freshman shows a powerful arm with some ‘zing’ behind it. Again, no defense and no shoulder pads, but Nico looked sharp and the only other quarterback on Joe Milton’s level, talent wise. Milton looked sharp as well throwing on air. I’ll be intrigued to see what they both look like throwing against some people Tuesday when we get to see 10 periods of practice.

Transfer wideout Don’t’e Thornton, who will be a full-go this spring, looked like a veteran running routes. He kept it skinny and was fast out of his breaks. Thornton showed soft hands and the ability to get up field immediately after catch. Interestingly, he was running routes out of the slot today with Squirrel White. Remember, Thornton is a guy who can play both inside and outside.

We were also impressed with the freshman Davis at tight end during routes on air. Sophomores Chas Nimrod and Kaleb Webb looked good, though the latter dropped one pass over the middle. Nico also missed one pass over the middle, throwing high.

As far as the defense is concerned, they were primarily working turnover circuits while we were out there. Aaron Beasley is the leader of that group from what it appeared today, and not just for the linebackers. Wesley Walker was flying around during group work with the defensive backs and Omari Thomas was leading the group up front.

Men's BBall in the Sweet 16, LadyVols rolling this weekend, and now FOOTBALL is back already...I said it's GREAT to be a Tennessee VOL !!!

I am a little surprised too with the general look of the men. No one seems to be overly 'winterized' and a few giys look to have added some muscle in the off season.
Everyone looks fast too !!!

I’m excited to see this defense. We have some athletes now at LB and the Dline is getting better.
On the back end, I expect some freshmen will be getting looks in the 4-5 deep.

Good to hear that Wright will be participating in the spring.

Still want them to give Sampson, Seldon, and Bishop all the work they can handle tho.

Wright needs to just continue his upward trajectory. Doesn't need to carry the ball 10 times in a scrimmage.

A lot of talent in the backfield.

LOVE Thornton working out of the slot. Make it even easier for him to get open.
