I'm fine with him outside the bloated undeserved salary.

UT has had some extremely bad luck with injuries during Barnes tenure. Kevin Punter, Kyle Alexander, Lamonte Turner, John Fulkerson, Olivier Nkamhoua, Zakai Zeigler and JJJ (periodic). Almost every year he has had to deal with some injury which has hurt our squad. Has cost him some wins and likely more success in the tournament.

Next year is going to be a new look group.

Why do you care what any coach at UT makes? This is the weirdest thing to me. Are you just jealous you make so much less? It’s so confusing why people take issue with this. If you want your school to pay less for its coach, go cheer for UCF.

He took advantage of an idiot, Fulmer. I just believe it results in expectations of a coach being paid that salary. Should salary not dictate some level of expectation?

This is a very rational take. The best way to make runs is to get high seeds year after year. Both coaches did that, but largely struck out on deep runs (typically due to bad luck and being on the bad side of close losses). Any coach that consistently has us as a 3 seed or higher is great in my book. Keep ‘em here and we will eventually break through.

He took advantage of a historically mediocre (or slightly below) basketball program that wanted a HOF coach. We’d pay him that amount again in a heartbeat. We outbid a blue blood for a coach. Anyone who doesn’t understand why all of these things are good just doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

My side is the Vols. 💯. And I’ll tell it like it is, and the pattern of swooning and underachieving is sickening. Why can’t the program aim higher than the first or second round in the tournament?

Unless my half hearted research is wrong, Barnes is the only HC we have ever hired that made a F4 prior to his Tennessee tenure. How much higher do you expect us to aim? There’s not many coaches with a F4 on their resume that would come here.

Makes you wonder if we're doing something that's playing a role in that run of bad luck? Seems like more than just bad luck.

His FF was 20 years ago, he’s been to 1 sweet 16 in damn near 15 seasons… Texas fired him for this reason. I don’t know why I or anyone else should ever expect him to take the team to the next level here, cause he is what he is. The question is how much longer is he going to be here? I guess he’s the only one that will make that decision. I thank him for what he’s done. But the excitement for the tournament is definitely gone, cause we all know how this ends.
