My laptop is seriously f'ed up. In the past couple of days, it has been running really really slow. I have ran SpyBot and it didn't detect any problems and I have deleted all temp. files, cookies, etc.

It is really slow when I first turn my computer on and the internet runs really really slow. I am at wits end about what to do. I thought that it could be a problem with the router, but no other problems on any other computers.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Edit: Before anyone ask, it is not from looking at boobies.

My husband's was doing that and we finally figured out it was McAfee in the background scanning every time he turned it on. I took it off and put AVG on it and it's fine now.

Sounds like registry issues. Probably time to start over (restore original OS).

this guy looks creepy, possibly made out of clay. BTW finally fast is quite the scam.

you could always try defragging it. if it's been awhile since you last did it, though, or if you've never done it at all, you might as well run it overnight, because it's going to take forever...

you can also try shutting down some programs that run at startup. some program, like AOL, even when you manually exit them still run in the background. if you disable at startup they won't run at all. depending on what OS system you're using determines how you shut it off. what OS are you running?

ok, bare with me as i'm going off of memory, go to your start menu and select "run". in that box type in msconfig. it will bring up a box with, i believe, six tabs across the top. click on the last one to the right which should say startup. you can generally click the box for disable all as your microsoft programs that you need are under the services tab but you may want to check your antivirus so it will run. to be on the safe side you can start with unchecking the ones you know you don't want to run and go from there but normally you're safe to disable all. if you find something after disabling all that you want to run you can always go back in and enable it. your computer will require a re-start and i should come back up faster and hopefully run a little smoother for you. you can always run any programs you disabled from the programs menu but some will add themselves back to the run at startup list if you do this and will need to be disabled again.

throw it away and buy a Toshiba. I heard from a very credible source that they're the best ever

i've used toshiba before and when i got my new laptop last year, i went toshiba and i wouldn't trade it for anything. there may be better out there but for the $500 i paid for it i don't believe there is any better for the price. i would reccomend toshiba to everyone, as long as it has AMD in it rather than Intel.

yeah, because my macbook pro is always fast....o wait, I have to replace them every 18 months as well....

1) I only run Mac OS about 5% of the time

2) If you are having to replace your Macbook Pro every 18 months you are downloading way too much porn. I had a Powerbook for 3 years, beat the hell out of that thing and it still runs just fine.

Same here.I use OS X on my Mac Mini, and for the most part use Windows on my MacBook. The main reason I use Windows is because I have a Sprint Data EVDO card and always get better ul/dl speeds on the Windows side with FF browser.I have no idea why,but it does.
