The Atlanta Braves

When exactly did "don't put a power hitter at leadoff" become a thing? I thought even old school types liked high walk, good base stealers hitting there, even if they hit a bunch of HRs.
Despite advanced stats, people can't shake off 90 years of HR/RBI being the statistical holy grail.

Don’t forget the almighty batting average
At least that's a stat the player in question has control over. Incomplete stat, but at least tells you something about the player. The obsession with RBIs and pitching wins was never made any sense from the jump.

I remember one of my dad's favorite things to say when I was growing up about baseball was "a pitcher with 15 losses is actually pretty good."

it’s more about putting a high walk rate guy/decent speed at leadoff more than power AND getting your best players the most PA’s. The problem is after Ronnie there isn’t anyone on the roster that is a good leadoff option. Ozzie doesn’t get on base enough. Harris last year was a 5% B/25% K guy. Eddie isn’t good enough. Vaughn isn’t proven enough. Ronnie is the best option by far. Plus he loves batting leadoff. It’s a small concession for your best talent. To me it makes no sense to move out of the spot right now.

Walks aren't the only way to get on base. There's not a perfect answer with this lineup, Ozzie doesn't have the approach. I think Harris is the best candidate.

Mike has to bat .310-.320 to justify that low of a walk rate to bat leadoff. I’ll be shocked if he repeats his .297 average from last year

The easy comment to make is that you have to lug all of the lineup protection up there with him and you end up with a glove first catcher batting cleanup on a team with 3 possible MVP candidates.

That’s worse than what Travis darnaud has done in Atlanta and a lot worse than what William Contreras did in Atlanta and will do in Milwaukee so yeah, he is a glove first catcher or we made the dumbest trade of all time

There’s a little bit of space and a few thousand players between the molina brothers and mike piazza. I know that’s hard to comprehend

Defining Sean Murphy as a glove first catcher is about as silly as you can get. He’s arguably the second best all around catcher in baseball. You’re like acting like he’s Tyler Flowers. He’s a really good hitter. And perfectly fine cleanup hitter.
