OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

You’re more than welcome to change yours to a Sandlot theme!

I’ll be changing mine to Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) that is the mainstream comic book version in late February meaning February 26.

A 2023 Cubs Swanson avatar when MLB regular season begins.

I’m going to buy the Men’s Blue Benny the Jet Rodriguez Sandlot Baseball Jersey from TheJerseyNation website this year.

That was after I decided to look behind me,

Did you talk to her after you noticed her 😂

I absolutely adore our troll friends in the baseball forum 🤣
I honestly can’t post during a game anymore. It’s too much Nega Vols taking cheap shots at players, being hyper critical, and ridiculously negative is more than I can take. I think several are truly trolls from other programs, and others are just legions of the miserable that like to stir stuff up.

Well they messed with the wrong hombre. This one don’t take no shite. I don’t take things personally but I’m also not afraid to call people out on their BS whenever I know for a fact they are wrong. I love to have them spinning in circles and they eventually will whither away back where they came from. I have a habit of pissing people off anyways so it’s no skin off my back 😂

On February 19 in Baseball History...
  • 1946 - Giants outfielder Danny Gardella becomes the first major leaguer to announce he is jumping to the Mexican League. It's the first shot in a series of events that will dominate baseball in 1946 even more than the return of all the war veterans. Gardella's attempt to return to the major leagues a few years later will initiate a major court battle.

  • 1953 - Ted Williams safely crash-lands his damaged Panther jet after flying a combat mission in Korea.

  • 1970 - Commissioner Bowie Kuhn announces the suspension of Tigers ace Denny McLain, effective April 1, for McLain's alleged involvement in a bookmaking operation. The suspension will last three months. McLain declares bankruptcy.

  • 1977 - The A's sell pitcher Paul Lindblad to the Rangers for $400,000, calling into question Bowie Kuhn's policy on player sales. Kuhn voided an Oakland sale of players on June 18, 1976 as 'not being in the best interest of baseball,' but had not specified the amount allowable in a player sale.

  • 1983 - Fernando Valenzuela wins his salary arbitration case with the Dodgers and becomes the first player to win a $1 million salary through that process. The Dodgers had offered Valenzuela $750,000 for the 1983 season.

  • 1987 - Less than one month after signing with the club as a free agent, pitcher Vida Blue stuns the A's by announcing his retirement.

Yeah, this right here. When they are just wrong about certain facts OR when they make harsh judgments based on their own lack of knowledge, it really makes me mad. Also, taking anything to a personal level about any player is out-of-bounds.

Tough games, but I think TV is doing what he came here to do, and that’s to give these guys a chance to play against quality opponents. As a fan, I know I need to check my ‘W’ ego at the door and realize Tony is trying to see who can and who can’t play against good opponents. Think of what Trey Lipscomb accomplished because he got the chance to shine.

Yes, the base running was head-scratching and hard to figure. We saw the first two games just how good the Gilbert-Beck-Stephenson defense was last year. Lots of decisions out there will need to be made.

I was very excited about the bat of Cal Stark, and Dreiling’s at-bat was terrific. Interestingly, I loved the way Dollander and Burns worked to hold runners close. I personally hated other teams stealing us blind last year. Maybe they do again this year, but I have to think the aggressive moves to first are foreshadowing a different approach this year.

I believe we will get where we want to get, but time and patience are going to be required.

Yeah, I really missed you guys the last 2 nights but I just can’t do it in the baseball forum.
I can take it in the football and basketball forums, and occasionally dish it out myself, but it drives me nuts in here!

If you didn't know, there's an ignore button somewhere for you to use. If you don't like to see what a poster(s) is posting & who's being negative about our team you can put them on ignore & you want see their posts making you to be pissed off.
