It ain't got a damn thing to do with money...it's just about luck getting the right guy...how many bozo ADs have jumped on the carousel and spent big bucks getting "their" guy...only for the dude to flame completely out? With the Spending capital being almost tops in the sec for basketball and the success the last 17-18 years combined with a hungry fanbase, huge arena and Danny White’s reputation. We have no reason to worry about it. This isn’t pre 2005 where Tennessee isn’t spending on basketball and ranks behind nearly everyone in the conference in basketball spending and resources being used. I don’t understand the thinking there by some

You don’t need a sitting P5 coach to be successful…. DW is the Goat at hiring coaches…. Danny White: Ranking Tennessee Vols AD’s 10 best coaching hires at UCF, BuffaloIt's not that I don't trust DW to make a good hire, but the college coaching landscape has changed. Unless someone has a tie to your university or they fall into your lap (i.e. Barnes), the typical hire is not going to be a sitting P5 head coach that has succeeded at another institution. Duke, UNC, Arizona, Villanova, Florida, LSU, MSU, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisville are all examples of that just in the last 2 years. So, there is a little bit of a gamble to that. So far, the results at a few of those have gotten off to bad starts.
Plus, DW could find a damn good college basketball coach who still may not put up the results that Rick Barnes has so far, at least in the regular season. The record against UK, winning an SECT title in 42 years, and his record against top 5 teams are all huge accomplishments at UT. Barnes has certainly elevated the program, but I am just not one to believe that the grass is always greener.
