Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

This was a preseason top 5 team. This was supposed to be the big breakout year. The return to Final Four contention. And it’s not going to be. It’s never going to be with this coaching staff.
I'm painfully aware of the first 4 things, and very worried about the fifth.

But what do you want me to do, burn a mattress? Being glad we stayed close and didn't get curbstomped again has nothing to do with any of that. I'm just trying to get my team through the season and getting whup arsed tonight would have been a really bad setback.

I don't think there is poster on here who doesn't 'like' Kellie, including Darth, ha. But liking her coaching is another thing. College sports is a business and with the LV's comes high expectations. The old guard is gone now. We have an AD that looks at winning and wants all TN sports teams to be successful at a high level. Under this new AD Kellie's history with LV's will only carry her so far. And I also like Kellie and want her to take this team to the next level but.....................
Try supporting her instead of running her down..that might help...

Nah, seat not any hotter at all after this loss. This was expected. In fact, she helped herself by keeping it competitive. Don't care what Charlie and his 10K followers say.
Nor the giddy mob of posters in this thread, many of whom are fans of other schools. Amb is a SC fan, Darth, a Vandy fan, saw an ETSU fan post, and Bison, Lipscomb? Hate to see how nasty people can be.

You understand because of the impact Pat had on the women’s game, fans of other schools are still fans of Tennessee women’s basketball. My wife and I went to Tennessee, our daughter is in college elsewhere…she loves the LV.

It seems as though our substitution pattern is pre- determined, regardless of what is happening on the court.
And why are our opponents able to play multiple players 35-40 minutes a game but ours have to come out after 5 or 6 minutes ?
Rickea, Walker and Horston played 36, 31, and 30 minutes. Jackson only came out for very short breathers, once for less than 2 minutes. Walker only came out bc of fouls, Horston to regroup her head. The box score, and simple facts, are your friends.

The only minutes problem I saw was whatever in the world made her limit Jill to 18 mins.
The reply calling for her to be replaced has almost half the number of likes of the original post. In my world of research, we would call that a statistically significant result. I think it does show there are more fans ready for change than most of us expected.
LOLOLOL yes, twitter likes are such very statistically significant research. For middle school. Don't know about others, but I expect a certain number of fans to be ready for change every hour of every day.
I haven’t seen Volnation Twitter this fired up since Schiano Sunday.
Kidding, right?. Probably not the best possible example of Tennessee fandom.

You guys have every right to your rage and burning mattresses and have some valid points. Maybe try using some of them.

Who do you have in mind as replacement?
Come on Lucy Loo, I respect you as a Lady Vol Fan as I am but you need to take the “die hard blinders” off your eyes and acknowledge that KELLIE is just not walking the walk that she talks. She coaches a game that concentrates on play in the paint and domination on the boards. Gotta have players with good hands and quick movement for that to be successful consistently. Additionally the Lady Vols don’t have ”good hands” just witness the number of turnovers per game that turn into points for their opponent. In my opinion, there’s a lot more wrong with the Lady Vols than right and I don’t see it moving in the right direction at this point.

The epic fail of this season so far is egregious. Harper has not handled things well, to say the least, from personnel decisions all the way to game management. The whole bizarre situation with RJ earlier this year was a red herring, and then when Key went down, that was pretty much the nail in the coffin for this year. I would attribute at least 4-5 of the losses to poor coaching from a combination of those two issues, which is not a good omen if you are part of the Harper household. If she would have been more fluid with her adjustments until she found something that worked, then maybe, just maybe she would have displayed at least some hope for her as a head coach at Tennessee. But no, she brings RJ off the bench for a long stretch, and inserts Striplin into the starting lineup, who is not ready for that role. These two things alone didn't necessarily cause losses, but certainly made many games closer than they needed to be, and then set the team up for the two big losses against UConn and LSU, both of which should have been wins. Hollingshead clearly should have been Key's replacement and RJ had no business coming off the bench, regardless of whatever infraction she committed. She sat for two games, that should have been the extent of the punishment. And then the recruitment fails. Harper is not it folks, and as a die-hard fan, it hurts that another four years have been wasted.

My biggest concern is that we’re not seeing any reason to hope things will get better. Does Tennessee have any top 100 recruits committed in the next 3 classes? We’re going to miss on Cambridge, the #1 player in America in the state Capitol, a city that has provided UT athletics with more talent than any in America…but we’re not even a player with her. So if we’re not able to load up on talent, we’d better be out-coaching people. But we’re also getting out-coached.

This move seems kinda obvious. Especially after waiting too long with Holly. The good news is, we have a great AD now. White will make the right decision and make the right hire. I hope he does it after this season and hires someone who can make an immediate splash with recruits (maybe even save Cambridge). The timing couldn’t be better, since you’re not risking losing any recruits by making a move (which was often a concern when talk of firing Holly came up).

Solid analysis. Many here are starting to understand CKH is in over her head…from RJ to Hollingshead to playing role players as starters. Each benchmark loss shows we are closer to a mid-major than elite P5 team.

Harper should have been coaching this year like the program's life depended on it...because in many ways, it does....and she hasn't. Instead we get all these head-scratching coaching decisions and lack of recruiting.

Spot on Greg. I trust Danny White to do what’s needed.

Go VOLS

I’m a Lipscomb alum…not a Lipscomb fan. And I’m just stating reality. Sometimes reality isn’t a pretty picture.
