Say you have 80 spots after you use scholarship for kickers/punters/long snappers. If it's a even split you have 40 on defense. In today's game it's pretty normal to have 5 DBs on the field. 20 might be 2 or 3 players more than "normal" but it's not an absurd amount.

I would imagine those 1st 7 guys on the list would take another step forward. It will be their 2nd-3rd year in the system and they are all Seniors.

Probably expecting transfers and trying to recruit over some of them. I’ve mentioned it a few times but last season we had the same number of 4 star dbs on our roster as Vandy.

Added Gabe-Jeudy-Lally out of BYU to the DB room - should help spring competition. I think this group shows big time improvement next year

There's a decent chance some may enter the portal after spring ball.

Also, DBs usually play a lot on coverage teams.

Probably. But maybe more so by who appears to be leading at safety/star. The additional CBs should allow Charles, Slaughter, Turnage, and Harrison to move back to their more natural position. Guys who were forced into duty as "slow" CBs with borderline coverage skills may turn out to be fast safeties with comparably good coverage skills.

I would be really good with that. Whatever it takes to get better on the back end. Still have to believe if a couple of young guys look like immediate contributors and the rooms are rearranged that some guys who want to get on the field other than as scout team will transfer out creating a few more incoming spots as well. I appreciate the guys that got between the lines in the roles they were asked to assume this past year or so and hope they end up in a good place for them, here or elsewhere. Some of the young guys, and hopefully our recent transfer make that possible. If the staff stills sees a need then I hope for a later addition as well if outgoing portal activity makes it possible.
