The Atlanta Braves

They will feel this man. Casuals will not be happy and that’s who fills the ballpark. I remember being at opening weekend and overhearing so many conversations of people who had no idea who Matt Olson was.

Losing Freddie and Dansby consecutively is massive.
Agree with you 1000% but don’t even care about the casuals (although that’s a very valid point also) but why claim to be willing to be top 5 payroll and then do absolutely nothing in a SS spending spree market? Don’t think Dans is worth 7 for 177 then have a backup plan in place. If not, pay the man 7 for 177 bc you say your team is actually going to be competitive in the market.

Dansby Swanson signed for 177M and Guarantano added to an active NFL roster on the same day. Holy **** the haters are wearing one

I want titles. This is a business. I can’t blame AA for not giving Dansby $177M.

It’s a little more fun to cheer for your homegrown guys though.

You either get the player or you don’t. You guys are sure bitching a lot about 177 million for Dansby like that isn’t the market. It’s a reasonable contract.

“I want titles.” - we’ve gotten worse this off-season, our direct competition has gotten significantly better.

I disagree that $177M is reasonable right now. Even if that’s what the market currently dictates. It reminds me of when the cap went up in the 2016 NBA offseason and everyone screwed up the market for a couple years. Then it corrected. I don’t think that contract is gonna hold up. Maybe this is going to be the market moving forward and in four years we go “wow yeah $30M for Dans isn’t that bad.”

Offseason isn’t over yet. I don’t think AA is done. Maybe Vaughn does become decent defensively. But I can understand not wanting to pay 34 year old Dans $30M.

I can understand not wanting to pay any of them anything. You either get the player or you don’t. The other 3 contracts are bad but those teams got better. The xander contract is hilarious.

Complete contradiction.

It’s really going to be interesting. The Padres/Phillies are in complete win now with a GM strictly in World Series bust. Dombrowski isn’t gonna be there in five years and Preller knows if he doesn’t win a WS in the next two years before Soto is gone he’s getting fired. The Correa contract is hilarious because the Giants went from being an 80 win team to 85 wins but whatever.

I get AA wants to be good every year. I like his idea of team building. He wants to be good every year and has a particular idea of how to do it. But unless he dramatically improves the farm, it’s not going to matter in 2008-2029. Which is my only complaint.

Thats why I dont understand the Padres and Giants moves. Did they get better sure, but LA won that division by like 18 games last year. Even if you add in regression and improvement LA should still be projected to win that division by 10 games. Those deals make no sense, they didnt close the gap on LA.

Why is the Braves farm system so bad? Have they just been trading away all their minor league talent or are they just horrible at drafting?

Agree with TBrown that losing Freddie and Swanson in back-to-back off seasons is bad.

SS is questionable. LF is questionable. Curious what, if anything, AA will do.

The refs are not going to allow us to win this basketball game.

Its bad because most of them are on the ML roster.
Then what we had left have turned into Olson and Murphy

Just because the market dictates something now doesn’t mean it’s going to be reasonable down the line. See the 2016 NBA offseason and some of the QB contracts in the NFL.
Those sports have salary caps. Steve Cohen has a $421 million dollar payroll. You aren’t comparing apples and oranges. You’re comparing apples and bamboo trees.

The farm system is bad because we had to forfeit like 10 prospects and couldn’t sign an international player for like 5 years. A prior regime really enjoyed drafting not very good left handed pitchers quite high on the draft as well.

It’s also bad because we haven’t had a sell off to restock in several years.
