‘23 TN LB Arion Carter (Tennessee)

I’ll be honest, I hope Mitchell doesn’t come back next year. These coaches concern me a bit not letting young guys overtake vets

I think you see that change with this class and the effort they are putting into getting them in for the bowl practices. I believe you see them start a lot of first and second year guys especially on defense and use next year as building up for the future.

Absolutely correct. Just look at the 4* and 5* in the portal transferring from Alabama. NIL deals and xfer portals mean these kids aren't going to wait in line at Bama for two or three years behind other 5*s waiting their turn. It's no longer advantageous. The NIL, as much as I don't like what it's become so quickly, means school's like Tennessee, et al that have a lot of money can play the same game now. Shows how much Bama has gotten away with the old McDonald's bag trick for decades.
The tricky part is that some or maybe a lot of those 4/5* guys were overrated. Their lack of PT isn't because the line is too long but that they aren't going to make it out of the back of the line.

That's the danger of the portal. It is possible if not somewhat likely that guys in the portal are there because they weren't good enough to play at their first stop.

Tenn_athletics here, Arion confirmed with me that Pete did in fact come up today. Arion told him to stay outside.
“Are you interested at all in seeing me?”

May be true for some, but I think it works both ways. We’ve known forever Bama stacks em four deep at every position and they wait their turn unless they just happen to be a world beater. There are certainly those that are good enough, but see the advantage of going elsewhere to play earlier and take advantage of potential NIL deals sooner rather than later.
