We spent almost the entire season talking about how talent deficient the secondary is, how Banks and Martinez were forced to work with what they had. Well, I am not sure the coaches agree with us about what they need. They may be happy with what they have and what is coming in. IDK. They may already know who they are going to bring in after the bowl games that is not in the portal yet. I still think it is too tricky to bring anyone in before ESD. My thing is with the portal the way it is, and players leaving teams all the time….there’s no reason to even worry about who you’ve got until the week before the first game because you don’t know who will be there anyway. It’s just a whole new world. Not sure I like it.

On3 has Cypress is a 100% lock to Ohio St which probably means we never had a chance. He could have definitely helped. The Harris kid is still an unknown and far from a sure thing at this point. I think we need sure bets and we have to assume everybody is coming back next year so spots are limited. Can't miss on these spots. Plus more kids will enter the portal as time goes on and bowl games are played. Portal open until January 18th.

Maybe the second window will be bring more of what the coaches are looking for? Or maybe they are excited about our incoming freshmen. After a 10-2 season where we still struggled on defense, I am content to let this play out and give the coaches some grace.

I think we’ve all read that the coaching staff is being choosing on who they go after and some they may wait until after spring practice. That tells me that they want to see who may develop by then or who pops in the portal by then.

If that is true then he needs a better lawyer. If you take a high profile coach like that and he can clear himself fast then that is the route you take and not let it drag out and clear your name and not get fired. jmo

It’s this. But we’re just used to the recruiting game where you rush and get all the best players you possibly can. They commit and decommit then you chase someone else as fast as you can. We read all their cryptic Tweets. Follow what AP says or doesn’t. Panic. Get excited. Get disappointed. Repeat.

Now we’re like…unless it’s someone spectacular, you’re going to just wait until after spring practice? But everyone will be gone by then! You’re ruining my recruiting fun!

No, I just found out today that we passed on the player I was told about. We found someone better at the position.The player I was told about was very good, but the other player looks better.
This is all getting crazy. Players are reaching out to schools and asking for crazy money. They are negotiating. The coach I talked to had been told that their former player committed to Vols and was waiting to announce. The coach thought it was done deal.
